Well, there I was this morning, sitting in the exam room for my FINAL exam...Pre-Design. I've passed all of the others the first time around and am about as used to writing these things as any of us can be....familiar with the way the questions are asked, how to study, and so anxious to have them finished! By about the 20th question, though, I was wondering if maybe today wasn't going to be my day. I knew my study material thoroughly (mostly Ballast, Archiflash, some Ching and ncarbs practice exams...the same material I've been successful with all along) but I'd have to say that only about 15% of the exam was directly related to the material...most questions were in contexts I would have never anticipated. I had several questions that made me think this was more of a convoluded CD exam. The thing I don't get....and if any of you have taken m/e you've felt this exact way...why are we being tested on some really (seemingly) obscure issues when all of the relevant issues we pour over in all our resources, are hardly touched? Seriously...only ONE zoning question out of 105?? I've even come home and TRIED to find answers to some of those questions and couldn't. So.....if I were to have to re-write this one (fingers crossed I don't)....but if I do I don't even know where to start to study. I don't suppose this message is anything more than a little vent but I am SO close and now to be worrying about failing, not over my lack of knowledge on the things I'll actually need in the years to come...but over things so indirect to anything I've come across...is more than a little frustrating.
Of course all of the troublesome questions stand out more prevalently in my mind so I'm just going to hope that I remember worse than it was and I'll have a pass in my hands in a couple of weeks.
Maybe they're running out of ways to ask questions. Grr!

I thought there were a lot of "mystery" type questions as well. I thought over 40% (at least) of the exam was pulled from life experiences that would never be found in books. That makes it very very hard to study for.
I was concerned about this one too, but ended up passing it the first time.
Good luck, I am sure you did fine!

Thanks, I'm hoping that is the case! (Especially since its my last one). All along I have been reluctant to 'bash' the testing methods because as frustrating as some questions are, I know they are based off of the general knowledge from our resources and work experience and, if we have a handle on that, then we should be able to decipher the correct answers. After I left this one, though, I was pretty wiped out from the whole 'writing' experience and just disappointed things weren't more straightforward since I knew I had a handle on the material I'd studied.
Now its the waiting game....which I hope isn't too prolonged! Thanks for the encouragement!

completely agree with u. I also took PD this past Sat and felt the same way. I pretty much went over the same study material as you and felt that it was probably helpful in 25% of the questions, the rest was left up to rational thinking based on past experience. Good luck, u r almost there!

| I took the exam on Sept. 8 and received the wonderful PASS on the 19th. I felt the same way as you. Some of the material was what I studied but the wording of the ?'s and the answer choices were not what I was expecting...This was a tricky exam and I also have tried to look up some of the ?'s and can not find the answers. Luckily I will not need to worry about that and I am hoping for the best for you as well.

Congratulations! What a nice feeling to know that! (That you won't need to worry about what those answers were....hehe). Thanks for posting - the encouragement will make my wait a little more bearable!

| Keep us posted and best of luck! I couldn't believe how fast my results came. Here in Texas we can check online and TBAE posts them as soon as they receive the results from NCARB, so that is nice...

Well, I definitely sweated this one....mostly because it was my last and it would SO figure if I failed the last one and had to wait. But....I PASSED!! What a relief!
I find it so hard to give advice on here about the exams other than: know your material, whichever resources you feel most comfortable using. Questions won't likely be direct so if your understanding isn't thorough and well-rounded, you can really get tripped up!
Also, don't stress reading the posts on here. Take the tips you can from reading about other people's experiences but remember, all of the exams are different and every one of us has different work experience, education and understanding. Just be confident in those things you have studied, get sleep before, and have a clear head.
Best of luck to you all!
