Well instead of watching my husband march in a parade, I tested today ... nothing new from what others have posted, but thought I would reconfirm the experience. This test pulls a lot from CD, so I highly recommend taking that first. Having BD/MM under your belt helps a lot too.
To my surprise, I had no ADA, LEED, or calculations. A lot of A201/B141, New Urbanism, and history-based (architects and planning) questions though.
My study materials:
1) archiflash
2) kaplan
3) ballast
4) Forum
5) B141 and A201
6) experience.
Most of this exam is problem solving that does not require a great deal of new knowledge. Feeling 50/50 on this one... so we will see.
I guess now I cant procrastinate on Structures anymore! Good Luck to everyone!

thank you for the summary BlewBe. I have the exact same study materials as you used and I also have taken CD and MM already, so, i'm hoping that will help.
Good luck with the results

Blewbe,
Allow me to join you... Hope it went well for you!
As for me, here is my recount: No FAR or setbacks calcs, no famous architects, no architectural Style, no PUD, no RPC, no tax mill calculations, only a couple of classic columns orders questions. Instead I found questions that I had no idea about and with funky wording ??? Definitively learn about orientation, theory behind comfort level, tons and tons of questions with sustainability as a background (maybe too many for my unfortunate taste !!! I will definitively suggest to review all the funky terms which I thought I had super clear but when I saw the questions my memory went blank because of the damn wording. About 50% of my test was on B141, and C141 (fairly standard), and a little bit of everything else.
So in overall I counted 33 that I had no clue or whatsoever. Most answers were guessed and not necessarily “educated”, just plain guessing, so to me they could have been in Russian, out of my background, and I have no real certainty of what it was that they were asking. This puts me in a not too safe position or above the imaginary passing grade cut. So for me is blurry… I just hope all those hours studying soo many subjects and history and all those things were for a good purpose and that a good passing margin leans towards my side, even if it’s just by the minimum. It worries me because the questions that I didn’t know I ended up answering them based on my experience, but while studying I learnt that my experience was not in the same terms as what my books indicated. Real world doesn’t necessarily follow all the steps that my study guides indicate.
So for me, I need all the good energy, crossing fingers and serious praying. God, Mother Earth, the Universe and all the good Deities. Please a Pass…. Pass… Pass….
I just edited my response because I received a nice suggestion from one of our colleagues in this forum. I don't think I disclosed any piece of important information and I don't believe I was specific but I just don't want to create a problem when there is no need.

When did you test? Your test sounds completely different than mine! That is the ARE for you though - for a standardized test, nothing is standard! Best wishes for your pass!

I am so impressed by your ability to remember about the test. My mind is always blank when I walk out of those exams... I took mine on 11/08 and I identify with your comments very much. As a matter of fact, everything you write about rings a bell... Great summary!
Like you, I had virtually no quantitative questions, everything was qualitative, judgement calls, some history (Broad Acre City kind of baffled me to be on there)... some hazard materials, contract stuff, and the other things you mention.
I studied the usual: the 2 Kaplan ASL PD books, Archiflash, the 2007 questions and answers for PD, a CD with mock exams, the history Kaplan ASL book. The CD exam was the last one I took about 1 months ago (and passed), so I felt confident that I would remember enough information not to have to review this material in detail.
When I was finished, I had marked 30 questions for review because they were all educated guesses that I thought I should read through again. I didn't have time to go through all of them, before my time ran out (only about half).
However, I did take my time with each question reading in great detail and thinking thoroughly... even the ones I knew the answer for, I read and reread to make sure there is no tricky wording...
Good luck to you and to me. I hope we passed. I feel that even if I had studied longer I would not have known any better.
I will keep you all posted on how it went.
I am afraid it will be longer than 2 weeks because yesterday I received a call from Prometric asking for my credit card info again because they had lost their record of me paying and they had not charged me for taking the test. I asked what if I don't give it to them, again as this is not my fault? They said then they would not send my records to NCARB, so I promptly gave them my credit card info.
Well, with any luck it is now 6more2go.

| My test was on 11/11/2008 and my booth was #13. I prefer to think that it was "lucky booth # 13!". There was no problem with Prometric charging my card... Oh well! I agree with you, not even if I would have had another week I could have studied differently or a bit more! Last night my brain was still swollen because of it... Good Luck to you too!

I checked too, just in case before I gave them the info... Also, I tried to negotiate, like to have a free rescheduling of a test for the future but they would not budge... Bastards!

Floridian & 8more2go - it sounds like we had very similar exams. There were a few that tripped me up but overall I feel pretty confident. Or another way to look at it ... I feel better than I did leaving CD and MM and I passed both of those. Finger crossed though!
I studied archiflash, Kaplan, Ballast & some of the stuff on the ftp site. Most of it was just review though, since it was similar to what was on the CD & MM.
Now onto ME!

| Basically, I will suggest for you to work on recognizing characteristics, proportions, names and widths of all the parts of a column.

I just called ARE operations because I still have not received my letter for PD, which i took on 11/11. This makes me nervous because normally it takes 2 weeks to get the results for the multiple choice part. The lady who answered the call said that it still is going to take a couple of weeks for ARE to send the results. Anyone aware of what is going on?

Floridian - we are all in the same boat. They are holding the score letters due to "quality control purposes" and are attempting to send them out next week. The lady I talked to suggested I call again mid-week to see if they had gone out.
So the slow return has nothing to do with you passing or failing it is country-wide. I don't know if they will send all the scores out in the next batch or not either. HOPEFULLY!

| Floridian - you should call ARE Prometrics - 1800-896-2272 and see if your score was in the batch they sent out on 12/12. When I called they said my scores for test I took on 10/16, 11/13 & 11/24 were in route to the state board.

I just heard the good news.... I've been out of town so I have not been able to see my results... I asked a relative to get the mail and to open the letter for me and.... despite all my fears, I PASSED!!! I think my heart has just stopped with all the emotion and feelings.... I'm basically filled with Joy and Relief...... I was totally in despair, down and depressed because I kept reading that everybody got his or her results. My letter never arrived and my Board has not shown any changes in my account so I said to myself that no results meant no good news... Went on with my vacations but deep down I was still worried and thought that perhaps this time was my time to not pass a test... I hated the idea...
So I assumed the worst..... But now I'm sooo glad.... WOW! Miracles do happen!!!
Good luck to everyone! Now, I feel recharged and super hopeful... My next goal is Materials and Methods.... HAPPY 2009 and I wish you all the best!!!!!

Hi F, I can't agree with you more about the pd experience and some other postings here. I didn't think I will pass this one either; except I got the result very fast.
Just a little reminder for you. I just read a message on ncarb site that they are monitoring this forum now. They don't like us to share too many details about the test contents... Of course I'm not happy to see that but..... they start to send warning or suspended the candidate's time
Best luck to your future exams
