Once you take your last exam, are you waiting for, a letter w/ PASS on it, or is it a larger packet w/ certification info, or od you even get the last PASS letter? I'm sure there will be more hoops to jump thru but a haeds up is appreciated. Thanks

In my case, NY was extremely efficient and didn't require me doing anything. I was very pleased. In fact, they were faster than NCARB. Two weeks after my ninth exam- I logged onto the NY web site and found out that I was registered. I was so happy to see those registration numbers. The following week NY automatically sent me my license and a wall certificate! A month later, NCARB sends out my pass letter (why was I not surprised).
NCARB could learn a thing or two from the NY state board. I asked NCARB to send my council record to Florida so that I could also get licensed there. 8 months later, they still haven't done ***....what a joke. Good Luck

Ooh. Florida. Don't get me started on them.
I started my reciprocity process in March. Actually, Florida accept licensure via state endorsement - but the catch is, they require proof that you actually completed IDP... and NY won't send that information out.
The only way that NCARB would ever considering transmitting your score is if you were certified... and even with constant hassling, it took them 2 months to certify me.
After NCARB Fedexed my blue-package or whatever (Ironwarrior, help me out here) to Florida - Florida State conveniently misplaced my NCARB Record. After raising holy hell, they found the file sitting on someone's desk. It took them about another 2 weeks to input the data, and another several weeks to clear board review.
Finally got my license last week.
After all this, my license expires in February 09. I'm gonna have to chew some more ears out in Talahassee.
Oh and Kevin, I concur with NHB. NYS's efficiency is a dream come true for applicants. Just keep checking the OP website like a madman.

| Thanks, Good to know. I called NCARB to figure out why i can't access my record online, they said it's because i havent payed my dues. So i said, ok, let me pay them now. Nope.. I 'm not allowed to pay during the exam process. Well i've been in the exam process for th past 3 years. Sigh. I'm sure this will complicat matters in my case. Now, if i could just learn to manage this anxiety for an exam 1 month away i'll be ok.

Whenever my fees are due I am able to pay online at http://www.ncarb.org/recordsvc/logon.asp without ever involving a human. I just went to that link and could not see the payment part, but I think that's b/c I don't owe fees right now. Anyone else had experience with this? If you have an NCARB # then you should be able to pay online and avoid the human route. If not, then call and tell them you want to pay online and ask them where the link is (maybe it has moved...).
Good luck!

opinion914- it might be worth it to try again and talk with a different person at ncarb. from what i understand it doesn't matter if you are taking your exams or not, you can always bring your record back to current. your council record is fairly independant from the exams.

I contacted NCARB via email asking why I my NCARB Record is currently inactive. After 2 weeks I got a reply... I owe $$ in back dues (the $60 yearly ARE Candidate Annual Maintenance fee). And I have to fill out a form (I don't recall form #) which will list my employment from the date my Record expired to present! My fault I guess... it's been a few years!
Then I called NYS Board and they told me I don't need to keep current with NCARB to get registered in NY. The reason to stay current with NCARB is if I'd ever want to become registered in another state. I'll probably pay my back dues and fill out that form... just in case I move out of state someday.

Opinion, I hate to say it - but you've been given misinformation, or the story isn't completely straight. How much time has lapsed since your dues haven't been paid? You may wish to call another customer service agent, or simply mail in your payment with the proper forms.
I paid my annual dues twice during my exam process... (took my sweet time to take all nine). By paying them through the exam process, you avoid reinstatement penalties and heavier dues for the first several years.

It did sound odd to me but she definately said i can't pay until i'm thru with the exam process. When i asked how this is going to F me up when it comes time to become licensed she said just pay the nand you'll be ok. It was probably 2 years ago that this came up. Funny thing is, i never got anything telling me my dues were due. Never received a bill. I've sent them an email so we'll see where this goes. Last edited on Mon Jul 14th, 2008 04:11 pm by opinion914

| Well, i spoke w/ an ncarb rep. (is it 'a' or 'an' ncarb rep? ) She said its' true, i can't reactivate my account during the exam process. I'll need to become licensed, give her/him the license number, then they can reinstate me. I can't pay now because my account went inactive due to a non-payment (i swear i was never notified) Anyway, this doesn't appear to have an effect on taking my last exam and getting my license. Thanks for the help. Last edited on Mon Jul 14th, 2008 04:28 pm by opinion914

Funny, i'm sort of in the same boat.
My account went inactive but i didn't notice until after i passed my last test two weeks ago (in New York). So like you said, it doesn't matter. You'll get your letter of passing and then the large white packet about 5 days later. Best part is the day after I got the pass, the NY State Online Verification had my name and license number online so I could order my seal, etc.
The NY State board is seriously efficient. I have to call to thank them. They even send out the tests as soon as they get them.
Now to NCARB & paying the dues. I'm trying to pay and get reciprocity. And i can't even log into step one:
http://www.ncarb.org/Certification/intro2cert.html
Because there are 2 databases on their site. Shear genius - half their site knows my email and the other half does not. And the woman on the phone when I called to straighten it out was giving me attitude as to why i would even log in here. Well, because it's step one. They promised to email me the form - over a week ago. They told me it takes time to which I replied, "But it's an email...."
All I'm trying to do is give them money. It's really funny.

"NY State Online Verification"
Just wondering where this can be found? I've seen where ones name will appear on this list in as little as 2 weeks after taking the last exam providing it's a passing score. 2 weeks sure beats 6-9 weeks via an ncarb mailing.

yep, that's the spot. i got my letter on the 30th and on July 1 this appeared:
http://www.nysed.gov/coms/op001/opscr2?profcd=03&plicno=032565
and you know what, the NY State board is pretty good about telling you in advance if they have your score if you call them. i'd usually call on fridays to find out if it was coming the following monday.
i think what happens is that they send the final pass score and it takes about 2-3 more days to put it in the system. so yeah, i guess you could see it online first (mine wasn't).

Another NY State question:
I just got a letter from NY State telling me to "complete your Application for Licensure and First Registration." I took my (hopefully) last exam a few weeks ago, but haven't yet received a pass/fail letter.
Does the letter from the state mean that I passed? Or is it a completely unrelated simple record update? It's been about 5 years since I started taking the exam and although I was excited at first, I have a feeling this is just a standard "we need a new photo" update.

Regarding NCARB. Are you certified?
If there outstanding IDP issues, incomplete forms, non-payment, nothing will be done.
Have you recently checked your on-line Council Record Status?
If you have NCARB problems with IDP I suggest you contact: Harvey Falconer, NCARB Director of IDP. 202- 783-6500
If he can not help you contact: Greg Hall, NCARB Director of Education 202-879-0535.
Hope this helps with your Reciprocity issues.

Bronxbayo,
Actually I called the state this morning. They tell me that I passed, although I never received the "pass" letter from NCARB. I'm done!!
FYI, the woman I spoke with told me that any incomplete piece of information in your app will delay you from showing up in the computer. Since my app was over 5 years old, I was not showing up in the system, even though I had passed all the exams.
Now the question is, do I need to pay my NCARB fee for this year? It's due on August 15. NY State is nice, but I really don't want to give any more $ to those NCARB f---ers.

That's great, CONGRATULATIONS.
I originally had NCARB transfer my info to NY in 2000, so, while I was in touch with them before I started testing in April to make sure all was OK and I was still in their system, I wonder if I would still need to update my record as you did. I can now tell myself that the reason it isn't showing up on the website is that, rather than something more dire.
Although all of this is me being ridiculous anyway; I took my last test only 3 weeks ago so it probably isn't even graded yet. Unfortunately, I have lost my mind with the anticipation and can't do anything else in life other than think about this.

I think you are exempt from state fees this year. You should get an invoice from your state in Dec.
Check with NCARB to see if you owe them anything.

I have few questions for you. I just received my last PASS letter from NYS but it didnt come with the regitration package. Do I need to call them and ask for it or it will come automatically? Also you said the registration # came up on their web site, how soon was this posted? I just checked online and my name didnt show up. you are ordering a seal? where do you order it? And do you know how to become the meber of AIA? And what do you mean by NCARB & paying the dues? Your replies will be appreciated. congratulations!

Bird Cage,
I finally got word from NYSED; unfortunately since I submitted my paperwork originally more than 5 years ago (even though I didn't start taking the exams until this April), I have to resubmit my Form 1 with a new picture, etc. before they can issue my license. This has happened to others on the forum before.
Did you hear from them yet?
