| Does anyone know if there is a way to get the test re-evaluated, if there is , is it worth doing so?

It's possible only in a few states.
You can check with your state board.
There are a few states that allow a "challenge" of a test - which means that you can ask for a Fail to be re-evaluated. The states that currently allow it are: AZ DE FL HI ID IN ME ND NM WA WI. In NC, SC, and NY it may be possible but indicates that you should "contact the board".
There are also states that allow a "review" of a test - which means you're allowed to schedule an appointment to see the parts of the test that you got wrong, at your state board's office, with an NCARB rep present, on a laptop computer, for a limited period of time. A review does not mean that your test is re-evaluated. It's just a way for you to see it. The states that allow this are: AL AZ CT FL ID IN ME TX WI , and SC indicates "contact the board."
As you can see, there are just a tiny number that allow both review and challenge.
But:
Challenging or reviewing costs a base fee of $300, plus $75 per challenged MC question, and it takes about 6 months to schedule, and longer to get a result. So it's cheaper and faster to retake a failed exam.
Also, NCARB won't accept a "Pass" that's the result of a challenge on a graphics exam. So if you manage to get one from your board, it will only count in that state. You'd have to retake the exam if you wanted to seek reciprocity in most other states.
Finally, there's never been a successful outcome of a challenge mentioned on this forum. (A few people have reportedly gone ahead and decided to do the challenge, never to be heard from again, but nobody has ever come back and said a fail got changed to a pass!)Last edited on Mon Aug 18th, 2008 05:22 pm by AbracaPocus

If there was some unusual circumstance during the test...such as a computer crash, then maybe it's worth it...I've seen a report where NCARB waived the fee for retesting after six months.
Generally speaking though, it's less trouble to study than to challenge.

That's true: if there was a computer problem then there's some chance that NCARB will take action IF you report it in writing within 10 days of testing AND they find some documentation of the problem or can replicate it.
But in those cases you should not follow the procedure for a state-sanctioned challenge. You should follow the procedure for reporting a testing anomaly.
Sometimes in those cases they've allowed a retake with no fee but still required the 6-month wait.
In a few cases - most notably the time they released a vignette that was missing a required piece of furniture - they allowed a retake without a fee AND without the 6-month wait.Last edited on Mon Aug 18th, 2008 07:19 pm by AbracaPocus
