| So I'm taking my first exam Wednesday, and can just picture some guy next to me taking his wingding exam, and he has jimmy leg, and his shoe is squeaking, and its going to drive me insane and make me lose my concentration and fail. Am I allowed to bring in earplugs? If I just put them in my pocket and put them in once the test starts, is someone going to tap my shoulder and ask me to leave?

You may not take earplugs. The centers have headsets. Apparently some have earplugs as well.

If they see you take anything out of your pocket after you enter the room you can be asked to leave - or if they see it on the film of the room after you've left they can negate your score.
But some people have had some success with taking in ear plugs, if they show them to the test center staff.
Other test centers won't allow them. They really aren't supposed to.
All centers have those big ear-muff type headphones available, though some people find them uncomfortable and other people are worried about germs...

"someone" told me they brought earplugs with them just in case. During the test they put them in but left the cardboard package on the desk. When the staff person came by and noticed the packaging, they asked "someone" to put the packaging away or asked if they could throw it away. "someone" hasn't had any problems, but recommends asking before going in to take the test. Its not worth the risk or worry.
