I am a licensed Electrical Contractor, I just passed my General Contractor's exam. My LEED exam is scheduled for September 22nd. I guess my question is, without being an Architect or an engineer, without having a college degree, am I even qualified to advertise as a LEED professional? I have been in construction since 1988. One of the main reasons for trying to build more "green" projects was what I saw as wasteful building practices. That and all the unnecessary packaging of building materials. Looking into being a more responsible builder I thought LEED certification would be a good idea, now after studying I am not sure that I will even be able benefit from being certified. Can anyone help me with marketing ideas or how to advertise LEED certification?

Dear mclamped:

I cannot help with the marketing question, other than to tell you that when negotiating for work it is something for an architect/owner to consider.  That having been said, I am a mere Records Manager at an architectural firm with some background (plan room) in construction.  I am taking the test.  I have no college degree either.  But per the USGBC, I will be entitled, as are you, to put the LEED credential after my name and on my business cards.

Good luck, I know I struggle with the content, especially Energy & Atmoshphere, however, this site has been immensely helpful.  Advice from professionals in this firm who have passed?  Use this site and take the greenprep exams.
