I have a questions about the scoring of the test. I have looked all over for the answer and cannot find it.
I have been practicing on some mock tests and they have questions like this:
Establishing a baseline case is necessary to demonstrate compliance with the requirements of which three credits? (Choose three)
A) WE Credit 2, Innovative Wastewater Technologies
b) EQ Credit 6.1, Controllability of Systems
C) EA Credit 2, Optimize Energy Performance
D)WE Credit 3.1, Water Use Reduction
E)EA Prerequisite 2, Minimum Energy Performance
It says to choose 3. Now lets say that I chose 2 out of the 3 that were correct. How is that scored? Is the whole question wrong or do I get a percentage right because I got 2 correct? Please someone help set my mind to rest on this subject.
Thanks
Nate

| No one knows exactly how the test is scored, but it seems that you don't get ANY points unless you get the ENTIRE question correct. I am not 100% sure though. Last edited on Thu Jul 24th, 2008 02:05 pm by mitchell

Mitchell is correct that it's all or nothing. There is no partial credit.
In terms of actual percentages, it seems like it is intentionally vague and seemingly logic-less... 80 questions, configured to a scale between 125 and 200, with 170 being passing... I had heard that you need pass by approximately 60%.
Perhaps they do that so that no one can complain that they were unfairly scored?
I dunno.
Either way, good luck!!

How do you know it's all or nothing? Can you show me where it states this? I've been trying to figure this out for a while now...hehe!

To be totally honest, I don't recall where I found that info, but I remember knowing it very clearly when I sat for the exam! I will see if I can dig in the ol' memory banks and try and recall....

Okay, here's one source, but I know that I saw it somewhere that seemed more "legit".

If you scroll down to the first comment, it makes mention of all or no credit.

Hmm...i wish someone from the GBCI could just answer this for us!! LOL! Even though I'm done with the test it's really bugging me. I just imagined some crazy algorithm with different answers within each question even having different weights or values, based on the difficulty or importance of the answer that is chosen. This is why, i thought, the test was kind of weird being out of 200, but only having 80 questions.
I do agree with you though that you need about a 60-65% to pass. Do you think there's a minimum score to have in each category or else you fail automatically? Like, for example, you get 100% in three categories but get a zero in the last one? You'd definietly have over 60%, but i don't think it's cool to pass somone who doesn't know how to implement the LEED process, for example. I dunno. Fun to discuss.

Okay, so I would first like to point out that we are officially "LEED Geeks."
Now that we've cleared that up, I emailed GBCI about the scoring and this is the response that I got:
The LEED AP exams use a scaled scoring system, much like other large standardized test programs like SAT. This process maps a candidate’s raw score onto a scaled score which allows candidates to compare performance across exam tracks and versions. The LEED AP exams use a scaled score that begins with a “zeroed” score of 125 and goes to a “perfect” score of 200. The passing score for the LEED AP exams is 170. You can read more about our scaled scoring system on pages 5 and 16 of the attached LEED AP Candidate Handbook.
There is no minimum performance required for any of the four exam content sections, and each section is not necessarily represented equally. Candidates could in theory answer 0% of Section 2 correctly, but still pass the LEED AP exam by answering 100% correctly in the other three sections.
SO, that *sorta* clears up some stuff, but not completely. I guess that I could email back again for further clarification, but I have one of those darn job-thingys.... I better get back to it!!

Haha, thanks for the reseach on the topic. Still in the gray zone, oh well!
And yes, I'd have to agree with you, we are definitely LEED GEEKS!

| I just asked this same question on another post. Thanks for all the information. Still studying and trying to pass.
