I just passed the LEED NC exam on Thursday (my first attempt). Here's how I approached things:
I'm a landscape architecture student and had absolutely no exposure whatsoever to LEED, so I attended the USGBC Technical Workshop when it was in town a couple months ago. Then I bought the official Reference Guide from USGBC and started studying it and the manual that was handed out at the workshop. As ridiculous as it may seem, every single word - whether it's in the text, a chart, a diagram, or any other place in those two books - is fair game for the real exam. And I'm not kidding. Even after taking about twenty practice exams (no joke), I was still amazed at how obscure some of the questions on the actual exam were.
In my opinion, the practice exam included in the CO USGBC study guide is excellent - probably the closest to the real thing of all the practice exams I took. But it's just one test, and for me it was nowhere near enough to prepare me. In addition to that one, I highly recommend the on-line practice exams offered by PPI and greenexamprep.com. I can honestly say there is absolutely no chance I would have passed had I not spent so much time on all the practice exams. In the end, they were absolutley the difference-maker for me because they made me aware of issues in the Reference Guide that I never would have thought were all that important otherwise and got me used to the ridiculously picky (not to mention poorly worded) questions on the real exam.
Anyway, I now have no use for my materials, so I'm selling them to recoup some of the massive expenses I have incurred in the last couple of months preparing for and taking this exam. I already posted two items on ebay:
LEEDPASS study guide:

USGBC Technical Workshop manual:

In addition, I'm selling my CO USGBC study guide and practice exam and my official Reference Guide. The CO study guide is in pristine condition. It is bound with a cover and has no marks or damage of any kind. Normally it sells for $50 (+$10 for shipping for the hard copy), but I'm offering it for $28, including shipping within the US ($30 including shipping to Canada). Please send me a private message if interested.
The list price for the Reference Guide is $200 for non-members and $150 for members new. I'll be totally honest: Mine is very used. The cover has quite a bit of wear and it has lots of highlighting and some notes, but otherwise it is in excellent condition, with no tears, stains, etc. I'm willing to sell it for $55 including shipping in the US ($60 including shipping to Canada). Again, send me a private message if interested.
So, that's it. Man am I glad that ordeal is over. I feel like I lost about two weeks of my life (not to mention a whole lot of money) preparing for the exam. Best of luck to everyone planning to take it.
