Please someone clarify this for me.

As far as I know, if you pass the legal exam and one of the exams for your category of qualification (let's say 'small buildings'), you write these two exams and then you can apply on 'Quarts' to be qualified as 'Other Designer'.

But if you work for a company that is registered as it provides design activities to the public, then you'd have to be qualified as 'designer' NOT 'other designer'.

So in this case, what steps do I take? Am I correct on my understanding?

What I'm really trying to say is that I work for a design company and therefore, I want to apply as a 'designer'. But on Quarts, it only gives me the option of applying as 'other designer'. From what I know, 'Other designer' qualification is only for those who will NOT provide design activities to the public (in which case that woudn't be me). As far as I know, 'other designer' is only for those who provide design activities in a design/build firms that only design their own work.

Please clarify.

By the way, I should have posted this elsewhere.

This designer thing is based on interpretation from the Ontario Building Code and the BCA.

Thanks and any help would be appreciated.

If you pass the Legal Exam and one of th qualification such as House 2003.

1. You can register as a Designer in the scope of House and you must have an Liability Insurance to cover your own designing behalf.

2. Register as an Other Designer... you do not need to have an insurance...The company you are going to work for will carry that Insurance and they will be responsible on your designing behalf.

Thank you for the clarification. So I guess only the 'company' and/or the principal of the company would apply as a 'Designer" and the rest of the employees who would take responsibility in design work would apply as 'Other designer'.
