I am almost done with IDP, although have not started CIDP yet.
can someone tell me how this thing works? Is it true that they need work samples? and do i need to go back in time and have my previous employers sign my hours which they had already signed for IDP?
Thanks

I don't know a lot about it but why didn't you do it concurrently?
None of the evidence or narative are sent to CAB. They are solely for the supervisor's benefit in verifying your experience.
I have no need to know all about CIDP, but I don't know if there's any reason why your current employer can't verify everything for you.
Have you read the handbook?

Thanks coach..I have to read the handbook. I just was under the impression that you have to send CAB drawings/documents of your work...

's what i thought but apparently you don't send the evidence to CAB at all - you only have to show it to your mentor or supervisor or whatever and they sign a sheet that says "yes their evidence was awesome" and you send that to CAB. which was a big relief you know?

Here is a horror story for you. I finished IDP a month after CIDP was implemented in 2005. I researched what work samples I would need for CIDP retroactively and it was over 100 different items; spread sheets, cost estimates, etc.. Not only did I not have these work samples, it was against company policy and against the law to keep a lot of this information ( cost estimates, contracts, etc.).
Even worse I did my internship in Washington state. No architect up there knows what CIDP requirements are, and I doubt very much any of my mentors would sign for CIDP retroactively.
I called up the California Board and asked what I should do. They told me I could either;
a) Get all my former mentors to sign my CIDP forms. (Which didn't seem realistic.)
or
b) Get registered in another state, wait three years, then get reciprocity in California.
I latter found out that if you get reciprocity through NCARB you don't have to wait three years.
So I am currently trying to get registered in another state. The CIDP requirement has made it impossible for me to get registered in California.
CIDP only works if you do it concurrently with IDP, other wise it is a nightmare to find all the work samples they require.

Not Dead Yet: don't count out your old supervisors.
Have you asked any of them?
Really, it's not difficult to get them to sign.
As far as the work samples: they never get sent to CAB - they're just for your supervisors to consider. If your supervisors are familiar with your work they will probably be fine with looking over just whatever survives of it at this point.
I think you're reading the rules a little too strictly.Last edited on Fri Nov 14th, 2008 03:04 pm by Phlustered
