So I just finished my official 700 CU's for IDP last week. Do I send my report in now - just showing 700 CU's? Should I wait until the end of my 4 month term (i.e. September 1st) and submit more than 700 CU's? Or should I do something in between so I have a little cushion to fall on (i.e. 720 CU's)?

I dont want to "confuse" NCARB any more than necessary. :P Any advise?

If you're sure you've got all the units you need then it's fine to send it now.

Just double check that you've covered all the things like the "floating" units in Category B - Construction Admin. From what I've seen that's the most common mistake that people make in sending in their last form - they think they're done because they got the 10 Bidding, 15 Construction Phase - Office, and 15 Construction Phase -Observation units. But that only adds up to 40 units, and you need 30 "floating" Construction Admin units to add up to 70 total.

Also don't send it yet if this isn't the same employer as on your previous form AND you haven't yet accumulated enough hours & weeks to meet the minimum duration requirements.

You don't want to make any of these types of mistakes, because if you have to send in another form, or any sort of requested "clarification" then it will add another 4 to 6 months of waiting time to the process.

But as long as you've doublechecked all the rules like those then it's ok to send it now.

Awesome - I think I'm good to go. Been at the same firm for about 2.5 years now, so that shouldnt be a problem. And I double checked that I have all my "floaties" accounted for.

Anyone ever have a problem with having too many floaties in Community Service? I have 21 extra right now (total = 31). Doesnt really say anywhere that we couldnt have extra's in there... so...

i think that so long as you have the required floaties the rest can be in any category.

i just finished up my hours as well and i am sending my final form today.  i was surprised at how good it felt so i thought i would give you a little shout out:

CONGRATS! and may ncarb processing be swift and painless for you.

i shall be waiting with you now that the hurry up is done.

When you submit the last record, How will NCARB know this is your last record. Do you need to write a letter and tell them this is your last one?Or write on the record?

I have submitted more units than required. But as stupid as NCARB is, do they know that I have submitted my last IDP record?

Thanks.

you submit your last record, wait for them to process it, then, when it shows up as approved on your Record Services page on ncarb.org, request transmittal of your record to your state board. They'll take another month or two to tell you whether you need anything else or have met all the requirements.

This whole process takes a while, and if you find each step taking longer than a month, call them and send them emails. You'll wait forever if you don't stay on top of them.

Case in point: my history so far...

Submitted last record: 2/15/08
record approved and requested transmittal to state board: 3/28/08
record transmitted to state board: 6/16/08

still waiting for permission to test. When i requested transmittal to the state board, NCARB said it would take 40 days. On day 80, i wrote them an email to find out where it was. My records evaluator said in an email to me that day, that my record was to be transmitted that day, but, i have no idea whether she is telling the truth.

Well it turns out she wasn't telling the truth. I contacted the NYS board, and they said they didn't get it, so i wrote to NCARB and she said she would send it out today (a month after she said she would)

This time i got a tracking number so at least I know it was actually sent this time.

oakdale-  congrats on getting your record sent!

thanks for the tip about checking up monthly,  it sounds like a good plan.  just write it in my calendar to call and follow up the same week of every month until it gets done.

thought i would update since there seemed to be several others who had or were submitting their last idp report at the same time:

it's been a month since i sent in my final report, so i called today to follow up.  talked to someone at ncarb who verified that they had received my report and that they were running a little slow getting everything up on the website due to a new computer something or another.  that it was running ~40 days for getting them processed and into the system (another ~10 days to go for me...)

she said that the new computer upgrade deal would mean that i will get email notification of each step of this process...  i figure if i haven't seen an email from them (or had the website updated...)   in 2 weeks i will call to follow up again.

anyone else have news to report?
