I just received my EESA evaluation. I now meet the NCARB standards.
For those who are submitting, here is my experience...
I received my evaluation report approx 2 weeks after online submittal.
Online application submitted on - 6/27/08
Paper application letter, transcripts, etc mailed - 7/3/08
Phone call received from EESA for confirmation of application received - 7/10/08
Access to pay $1500 application Fee - 7/11/08
Comprehensive evaluation received - 7/14/08.
Was able to download NAAB approval letter and evaluation report on the very same day.
About mu eduaction background: I have a Bachelors degree from india in Architecture (5 year course, 10 semesters (each year consisted of 2 semsters).
1 semester = 4 months,
4 months x 4 weeks = 16 weeks/semester. I actually broke this down in my cover letter.
Masters Degree from USA, in Urban Planning, 2 year course.
What I submitted:
1. Official Transcripts for each semester (the transcripts we receive in college (India) from the university holds good. I had it certified/ notarized here in atlanta.
2.Official transcripts for Masters, I had my (USA)university send official copies directly to NAAB.
3. Course descripton for both Bachelors and Masters.
4. Copies of degree recieved for both.
5. Cover letter, requesting NAAV for a comprehencive Evaluation.
6. Signed Application, which you will be able to download as soon as you SUBMIT your application online.
Mailed the above to EESA, with Confirmation Receipt.
(For those candidates who have question regarding what grade to put on the online application for each subject: I called EESA and informed them, that In India we do not have grades like A,B,C,D but have Class sytem like Distinction (60% and above), Ist (60%), IInd (50%), IIIrd (40%) and IVth class (Fail). The lady I spoke to asked my to grade them accordingly. Since I made 60% in most of my Subjects I should have put a Grade 'C' beside the subjects, instead i put a B beside all the subjects. This really didn't raise any questions.I guess the grade does not really matter. They are going to compare your course work and number of courses completed according to NCARB stnadards.)
I had 23 deficiencies in General requirement that was waived since I had a Masters from an American university.
I am waiting for EESA to send my evaluation report to NCARB. I dont really know who long that will take. but looking at the above quick procedure by EESA i am thinking atleast a week or 2. after that for MCARB to transmit my record to TExas will I think take a year or 2 ... ha ha.
I hope this helped all prospective EESA applicants. Make your ppaer work clear your procedure will be smooth.

Hi Cubeist.
Thank you so very much for detailing your EESA experience online here.
Your recent posting of how quickly your EESA evaluation ocurred has given me great hope. i am currently trying to get all my coursework descriptions, transcripts, etc together.
i have a bachelor's degree in architecture from india and a masters in urban design from the USA. It seems like its going to be pretty easy to satisfy most of the NCARB education standard requirements except for General Education Requirements
currently i can assign around 12 semester hours towards the required 40 semester hours, which means a deficit of around 28 semester hours.
i believe the requirement for english will be waived since i have a masters from the US. what about the remaining 28 hours? your post mentions that you had a deficit of 23 hours in this catergory. how come that wasn't a problem. did you try to explain anything to EESA to get that waived? Please advise since that is my biggest worry.
Also, do course descriptions need to be certified/attested?
Could any coursework from an urban planning/urban design program help with this category. also...what categories did you choose for most of your coursework in the urban planning program.
sorry about the number of questions. i have just started this process and it looks like its going to take some time to figure it all out.

It's interesting that 60% would be considered distinction in your program in India, and that below 40% would be the threshold for failure.
If that's the case there's really no parity between the US and India systems, and it seems strange to grade them the way you did.
Typically 60% is the threshold for failure in most US university grading systems for undergrads (and 70% is the failing threshold for many masters programs.)
An A in most US programs is 90% and above, a B is 80% and above, a C 70% and above, and a D 60% and above (though many masters programs have no grade of D - just A, B, C, F).
And of course this is all further divided into B-, B, B+ etc. There is no grade of A+ in many schools, and also some do not break down a D further into D-, D, D+.
A grade of D is usually just enough to get credit only in your own university, but will not transfer to other schools, allow you to place out of the subject in grad school, or fulfill a prerequisite. Last edited on Tue Aug 19th, 2008 05:07 pm by Phlustered

| EESA website FAQ indicates that general education will be waived automatically if you have a master degree (any master, not has to be architecture related) in US. I think they will move some units to humanity, that what happened to me. I am not sure how they applied the credits. But General Education will not be your problem since you have a master in US. You need to include the course description, transcript for your US degree as well. Last edited on Tue Aug 19th, 2008 05:40 pm by alldone

75% and above is considered a Distinction in India
60% is a Ist Class and anything below 60% is a IInd Class.
This was the case when I graduated in 2000. I dont know what is the case now.

Congrats! I think EESA is getting its act together finally! They found deficiencies in Sciences for me and asked me take a college level exam. Thankfully for me WA does not require NCARB approval to take the exams so I started taking the ARE. But they updated my credits and waived my deficiencies just last month so now I can be NCARB certified....don't know if that means much right now
Good Luck w/your exams!

i think I had a college seal on the CD. I am sure you can also get it certified/ notarized by anybody here in the US.
But if you are able to get it sealed in India, The better.
The more thorough you are the better your documentation will be.

Hello Cubeist,
I have my Bachelors from India too. And mine was a five year Annual programn, not semester.
Should I break all the hours into 5x2 =10 semesters while filling the hours/week (16 weeks) value or shuld I write all the annual hours/week (32 weeks) and allow to EESA to divdie by 2 ?
Waht is the right procedure
