I have a 4 year degree in Arch. and 5 years working experience.  I am looking to submitt IDP training report.  How many training units do California require with a 4 year degree to allow me to start taking my exams?  I do not want to submitt all units for the 5 years as I believe it will take to long to process.

You need 5 years. The way you accumulate that time is with education, experience or a combination. IDP is required before licensure but not before the ARE.

Your degree should be worth 3.5 years.

Any full time experience under a licensed architect is counted 100%.

Full time experience with a licensed engineer or contractor is counted at 50% with an aggregate max of two years.

Depending on your experience, it looks like you qualify for the exam now, all you have ot do is get the application, employment verification forms, transcripts and a check.
