for those who run your own projects, what method do you use to write your specs? Do you sign up for annual membership? or do you purchase the whole software? or do you hire specs writer to do it for you? I'm getting ready to do some work on my own but I can't figure what's the best way to approach the specs part. If you could help me with some tips on that, I really appreciate yours.
Also, how do you afford to pay for Professional Liability Insurance if you on do just a few small deal a year? I really don't want to do work w/o liability insurance, but the insurance is insanely expensive.
Thank you.

When I write full blown specs, I use SpecLink on a per section basis.
If I start writing more then I'll go to subscription.

For small to mid-sized projects I use a masterspec-like short-form product from these guys: http://www.kalinassociates.com/
they have great customer service and the fees for updates are very low for returning customers.
For anything very large I'd probably involve a spec writer.Last edited on Thu Oct 2nd, 2008 05:28 pm by FinitoCompleto

| We use SpecLink on a yearly subscription basis. It works well, installs on the server, the customer service is extremely helpful.

awesome, thanks all.
the place I work for now is using speclink with an annual fee. It's quite easy to use.
having someone to write specs is also cool. I'll check out the link.
