I just took MEP last sunday and while i'm recovering from my post-traumatic stress, i'm trying to figure out how to study for GS. i've read a lot of people talk about the online class by Mark Mitalski. Has anyone passed this just studying the Kaplan book? the online class is kinda pricy, but maybe its worth it not having to retake it. are there any other books that people have found helpful?

Great Question....I too have considered the online courses, but have yet to go forth with one. Ive been into this subject going on 3 weeks now, testing in another week and a half...and my primary resource is the kaplan books (GS and GS/LF) which have more material than I can imagine within them. However I also have the Archi-Flashcards, the 2-books of test banks for the Kaplan....along with some printed material from the FTP.
But, you know how sometimes when you study....all you see is the black and white, and your mind refuses to wrap itself around what you have read? Ive been running into this situation a lot lately...where Ill read a few pages, then think in retrospect and say to myself....now, what the f!(AT)# did I just read? ugh! One step forward, 3 steps back.
Is it possible for the mind to get "burned-out" perhaps from fatigued or whatever else?...Ive been studying and testing non-stop since February this year, including every night and weekend. I think its starting to catch up.... Last weekend was the first weekend since february where I didnt pick up study material for a few hours, as I just couldnt find the motivation.
Any suggestions? I guess Im getting nervous cuz my focusing abilities are limited and I still feel there is a lot to absorb, in order to feel comfortable to deal with this exam. Im seriosly considering moving my test date, which is a last resort, but Hmmm..30 now, or 100 later?
Think the online seminar's would help? Thanks for any input you can provide.

i have heard of a few people passing this test with just the books. i still have all my notes from college so i think i'll take a look at it all and decide this weekend if i want to spend the big bucks on the online course. my husband is also taking the test so maybe the money spent for one subscription for the both of us would be worth it. (of course he's the kind of guy who could just sit through the course at school, not take notes, review MY notes the day before the test and still get an A).

| I am now on the second review run of the mitalski anytime online seminar on GS and I think it is helping me a lot. It is really pricy and to me a major decision but in my case I easily get tired reading 2 paragraphs and figuring out why something is something specially with all the calcs. For me the nice thing about the seminar is that you learn the concept & how to do stuff. The whole thing still takes 35hrs or so & seriously its not easy to finish all in 1 week. I also have kaplan GS & LF study guides with Q&A, kaplan flash cards, ballast & archiflash. I use my reading materials if I'm away from my computer. The learning is definitely worth it not just passing the test but as future architects. I cannot afford to fail, another reason why I took the seminar. Goodluck. | Thanks rcm....what do you get to take from the seminar....any downloadable notes, agendas, outlines....or do you take only what you write down from the seminar?

| You can download pages in the course book and sample questions. In my case, I feel I need more help than study guides alone & now I feel getting closer to being ready for the test. Last edited on Mon Aug 11th, 2008 04:38 pm by rcm

| I passed with the Kaplan book alone (besides the forum). It's definitely do-able, but I'd recommend taking one of the classes if you struggled with structures in school or think a little refrresher course would make you more comfortable.

Kaplan is far too focused on overly complicated calculations. Ballast is a bit harder to read, and is still overly calcualtion based though not as much as Kaplan. The Thaddeus seminars are worth every penny. I cannot comment on the online seminars.

i signed up for the marc mitalski course and just finished about 2.5 hours of it, and already i feel that its worth the $$$. although, it took about 5 hours between the time i paid for the class and recieved any sort of info from him about this class (which kind of freaked me out) i wish there was some sort of class like this for MEP (still waiting on results for that!).
