I tested yesterday, and like most left feeling a bit dazed. I was surprised that there were no pick steel beam, bolt, or joist questions. Most of the rest of the test was like what everyone else posts on here. Not any big surprises except for a few questions I think they throw in to get a laugh. One thing I looked over was Live and Dead load factors, and when and how to apply them. I probably had 3 questions where i knew how to do the equation, but was stumped on figuring out the darn loads to use. I dont think Kaplan had much more than a paragraph on this. Memorize the formulas everyone talks about...I didnt use the reference section much because of this. I studied Kaplan, Arch Studio Companion, and did all the practice tests. I felt like these were enough. If I fail I'll cough up the cash to take the Thadeus or Mitalski seminars. I dont know if this helps anybody....Wish me luck...

It does....thank you. I test this coming Monday, and Im scouring the forum for posts that lend suggestion to the small things to look out for. I'll certainly take some more time into the ratio's as recommended.
I feel Im getting a relatively good grip on the "concepts" that everybody is referring to, and the relationships between the properties of the different materials and what effects them. I cant say that Ive been focusing too much on memorizing much formula based on suggestions of the forum, other than the basic Section Mod, and Moment of Inertia, and a few coefficients such as Thermal Expansion for Steel, Allowable bending Bending for braced and unbraced Steel columns, K values, and a few others.
I havent noticed much in the forum regarding exam questions based on long-span structures, or those complex equation's for calculating the components of a truss.
Have you had much experience with those?

Look at the ftp pages for sections of the Studio Companion for relevant info - is important, those questions are out there on some of the exams!
Good luck!

LibraLogic,
I didnt have any figure out the calc for truss members.....always a possibility i guess...just know how to figure out what members are in tension and compression.

My test is tomorrow at 9 am. Yeah, and I'm still up triying to memorize the damn formulas. Lets hope that I will not need them. Any advice on the night before??
