| Is it worth it? What other study material did you use either before or after the 30 day window? I'd love to do the chicago course, but am not "brushed up", yet. I'm also cringing at the cost of gas and the hotel.....

I took the LF online anytime course. He has lots and lots of supporting documents to download in addtion to your study notes. Plus you can schedule a one-on-one study session with him over the phone. He uses the same computer online program to take you through any questions you have and draws explainations for you while you are on the phone with him.
Marc is great. If you are not confident about the subject, you might want to consider it. I think he is worth it.

| Its great basics and he goes over calcs to more than i thought when i went back thru my notes. You got to take the next step and get into the problem / test taking mode tho my test in a week.

I did the online anytime GS course and I thought it was great. For the first time EVER in my schooling and career I found myself ACTUALLY interested in what he was teaching! I HATE math and structures....but in the 27 hours (or whatever GS is) I was never really bored by the material which came as a complete shock to me!
I too, like someone else said can hear Marc's hints and tips while I am deciphering through answers on practice exams.
I have emailed him with some questions and he has been very good about getting back to me.
Back to your original question.....By the time I took his course I had already read Kaplan cover to cover and gone through all of the non-calc archiflash cards. Ch. 1 and 2 in Kaplan are most important to review before his course, IMO....they are the basics.

Hi, I just signed up for Marc's online course and began his recordings two days ago. Apparently, i can have a month's time to access the recorded lectures. How would you plan your study for the test within this period of time?
A bit scared of structures....

if i recall correctly, the GS course is about 30 hours or so. i suggest trying to go through it twice before the exam - at least that's what i did.
i'd wake up around 5am every morning and studied 2 to 3 hours before going to work and 4 full days in the 2 weekends right before the test - ( i did this for all the tests) the only drawback is that now that i finished everything, i still haven't been able to sleep late
taking the mitalski courses was definitely one of the best decisions i made.

I've shelled out the cash for kaplan. I'll brush up on that and then order the Mitalski online. I'm looking to test in early December for both GS and LF.

I wholeheartedly recommend Marc's courses for both GS and LF. I was quite panicked and stuck until I took his Online Anytime course (you watch/listen whenever you want). He provides phone/e-mail/online tutorial help for all his students which is INVALUABLE, especially considering he is just about the most patient professor in the entire world. Most importantly, I PASSED both GS and LF, first time.

The online anytime course is for four weeks unlimited access.
Can anyone complete studying all in GS and LF those information in 4 weeks?
I have just started GS yesterday and hope to take these two structure exams before christmas. I wonder if the four weeks online course will be enough.
i think the course price is very expensive so i will start try to read kaplan and ballast first. any advice is appreciated.

| I think the amount and type of prep necessary for these courses is a direct function to the candidates personal exposure to the subject...including professionally and/or academically. One size does not fit all.

Thanks, javs88. I think I will definitely replay his recordings as much as I can before the access expires. I am aiming to finish the first round of this 27-hour lecture in a week to get an idea of what's in the "General" structures.. before I get into the specifics in the following three weeks. What do you say?
Anyway, so far, in my 5th hour of the recording session, i find the concepts easy to understand..

Anyone know if there is on-line course for non-structural subjects like Marc's?

He seems to cover the building codes quite a bit. Are there that many specific code related question on the GS & LF exams? I haven't started with the flash cards, Kaplan, etc. yet. I've jumped right into Marc's seminars.
So far, I agree that he explains concepts way better than anyone in school ever did.

i'm done with mitalski's course. I finished around oct 11th. I test today at 11am. I think he offers a ME course now too. I got an email about it this week.

In LF, yes. There has been an increase in code related questions in LF. Code questions in GS are more general.

| I was about to take the GS a month ago and thought maybe I should do the course as just extra insurance. so I pushed the test a couple weeks and plowed through the material. Havent received the results but the course definitely lessened my anxiety and stabilized my wing tips as I flew into that test. He has an encouraging approach and his real world examples helped the material stick to my frontal lobe better. Reading Kaplan and trying to resurrect college memories of this stuff is like passing a kidney stone.... slow and painful.

Your question originally was about supplementing Mitalski (which as I mentioned above I highly recommend!). This is how I supplemented:
- I read the first 2 chapters of Kaplan and needed to understand that material first
- All the Kaplan book quizzes, even if I had not read the chapters
- Kaplan CD quizzes
- Kaplan Q & A book - got through about 1/2 of it
- I did a 1-day Thaddeus seminar (1/2 day for GS, 1/2 day for LF) which went by so fast I still can't read my notes - but the visuals on the LF part helped
- Archiflash cards - I xeroxed some with forumulas to full page size and posted them everywhere so I couldn't miss them (kitchen, bathroom)
- Ching - A Visual Dictionary - essential for visual learners
- Ambrose - Building Systems - good but not essential to me
- Iano and Allen - Studio Companion - great, and also am using it for the ME exam
- this forum - mostly for huge moral support when I was stuck
- relaxation - got eyestrain from studying too hard (not taking computer breaks from the online seminar) - once I made myself take breaks every 30 min or so, I found the information synthesized much more easily.
- postponing the exam until ready - every week for 3 weeks I postponed the exam - and I passed.
You can do it!

Yes it is worth it! He will give you enough material that you might not even have to buy a different study guide.
For once, I actually understood structures and was amazed at how really uncomplicated it can be if someone who understands how architects think, explains it plainly and shows you how and why a problem works.

| I thought his course was good basic knowledge and also great samples that made you understand the concept on how to do more than just one type of the same problem. And I can tell u this helped in the test I just took monday
