Well I can say that I feel 50% of what I read and studied was for naught. Total waste.
I had less than 10 calcs. and 3 of them weren't even *structure formula* related.....I had TWO that were total WTF!?!?!?!I couldn't even rationale through them. I had to guess.
I had plenty of time I went through everything once. Marked all calcs and even questions that were just taking too long to comprehend. I prolly marked 25. Going back through the marked ones I answered all the wordy ones that I marked and then the thrid time through the marked Q's answered the calcs. Then I had 45 minutes left to go through EVERYTHING one more time.
LOTS LOTS LOTS of system selection/comparison
No truss
No concrete
One reaction (it was the WTF prob)
One Moment (another WTF...it was a REALLY weird Moment condition....had too many loads)
For this test the reference section was useless. I opened it a few times looking for possible answers...never found anything.
The calculator was fine....because I had SO few calcs. PLUS I had practiced with the windows one while doing the Kaplan test bank
One.....count them ONE question had a OBVIOUS straight forward calc from the *I * formula. I was so skeptical of it cause it just seemed TOO simple. I kept thinking it was somehow a trick question. IMO, thats so sad that I had to be THAT skeptical!
I had some wood related Q's.
Some system/fire resistance related Q's.
I had some VERY specific IBC code related Q's. Glad I read that.
Thats about it.
I left feeling indifferent. NO clue how I did. I hate to be optimistic and get my hopes up yet AGAIN....only to be disappointed and crushed.
I enjoyed a BIG glass of wine last night and actually sat down to dinner with my dh and kids and carved a jack-o-lantern! It was pure heaven.
Good luck to everyone prepping to test...now the wait is on!

thanks for the report - could you be more specific on the IBC code stuff? That's what really mucked me up last time and although i have the new code book it's really dry - any suggestions on what to study up on?

the code stuff was all over...i really can't say without quoting the exam q's.
k, i've been studying since august 1 for a 10/30 exam. i've done ballast, kaplan book, q&a and test bank, ftp sources and notes and mitalski's gs online anytime.
i hope it is a pass...but who knows

Ch 16, Ch 17: inspections and observation, Ch 18: good definitions, Ch 19: definitions and durability requirements.
I also perused the corbeling allowances and foundation wall sizing methods.
REad for definitions and concepts.

The items I studied are listed above. I also used Ching, Allen for system selection, graphic standards and the green steel manual. I also have archiflash and kaplan flash cards for GS.
Pretty much EVERY GS study aid available.....I own it.
My husband and I are burning all my GS study materials in our fireplace while enjoying a well earned drink if I pass.

No. It's only been one week. I won't even begin to get nervous about the mail till next week. NCARB and state of Illinois are never THAT fast!

| well i took the test today, pretty much the same info except i didnt have any IBC questions. had about 3 moment problems. and yes they were WTF>>> i hope those are the ones for future test that dont count. feel pretty much the same way about it. 50/50 on the pass. just need to wait and see i guess. oh and had some wacked out history questions. No truss, and the flash cards actually helped from Kaplan.
