I tested Friday and felt it was the most difficult exam I've taken so far. I was confident with about 50% of the questions. I studied for about 8 weeks. Mitalski course, archiflash, Kaplan, and Ching's book. Plus some misc. info. from the ftp. As always, a lot of what I studied wasn't on there but of course there is no way to know what to study.
I had about 10 to 15 calcs. 2 that I just had to guess on. I got through the text with about 30 minutes left. Then had to go back to the questions I marked. I answered the calc. questions the first time through if I could. If I felt I was spending too much time on it I just moved on. I wasn't able to get through all of my marked questions like i have on other exams.
I had no bolt questions. A couple weld identifications. Several masonry wall questions, specifically about the strength of grout. I had to guess on these. Several questions on picking the right sturctural system. I had read this in other posts so spents some time reviewing that info and glad i did. Overall i felt most of the calc. questions were fairly straight forward compared to those I have been studying. However, I felt suspicious when I came up with an answer that matched one of the choices because it just seemed too easy. One question didn't seem to have enough info. so I guessed.
Taking the weekend off and loving it!! Then back to the books tom. and on to lateral forces.
As a sidenote, I would recommend the mitalski seminar. It makes it a lot easier to understand the material.
Hopefully I won't be sitting for this one again.

Do you recommend the mitalski seminar before ,during or after studying the rest of the material? What is the calculator like?

All I am studying is Mitalski and Thaddeus. No Kaplan or Ballast except for the practice problems. Between those two, I think I have everything I need.

abell, sorry I'm just replying. I haven't been on the forum for awhile.
I think you could start with Mitalski before studying anything. Or, read the first couple chapters of Kaplan just so you are a little more familiar with what he is talking about. As far as the calculator, don't freak out. I think some on this forum make things out to be worse than they are. It's a little awkward but I had no problems with it. I messed around with the windows calculator at home for only a couple minutes so I wouldn't waste much time practicing with the calculator.
By the way, I passed!!!

When did you receive your results? I tested on Nov. 3rd and have not heard anything yet. That's exactly 5 weeks today.

Agree! I think Mitalski's seminar is really helpful. I would listen to the seminar before any other study material. He makes the concept much more clear.
I just took the test on 4th. Think I have the same test as the post here:

besides Mitalski, Kaplan, Ballast, Archiflash. and material on the forum, I think Architectural Graphic standard is important. I wish I had review AGS at least once.

I don't remember about MM, took it long time ago. But there were about 15 calculations in my GS test. I didn't think the calculations were very complicate, but need to read the questions carefully. They are tricky.
I skipped the calculations and do them at the end. this way can keep my head much clear and it worked.
