I don't feel any better or worse about this test than I did for any of the others. For whatever thats worth. Although usually the first few questions are really difficult on these tests and it was exactly the opposite on this one. It started off really easy which helped put me at ease.
What I studied:
- I took Mark Mitalski's Course Feb 2008
- Archiflash Flash cards
- The Architect's Studio Companion
- Kaplan CD (Found lots of errors on the CD but still worth studying)
- ARE Study Guide from NCARB (One of the questions was directly from the 41 sample problems)
- ALS Structural Tech 1 & 2
- IBC 2006 (Chapter 16)
I studied for about six weeks. Usually I study for a couple weeks until I feel that I have a grasp on the breadth of material, then I schedule the test giving myself at least three weekends to study and the last two weekends are ALL weekend (10-12 hour days).
I had about a dozen calculations and about four of those were really difficult. I encountered nothing like them in my study material so I basically guessed.
There were some of the usual very poorly worded questions. So poorly worded that I read them several times and still had no clue what they were asking for or how the question even remotely related to the answers given.
It's out of my hands now. I'll start studying for LF this week.

I remember having 40 minutes left on question 72 and laughing about how I might not finish if I tried to understand what that question meant.

I think those poorly worded questions are intentional to make the exams harder.

They could also be some sort of "control" questions or possibly test questions for future versions.
Sometimes you can't sweat the small stuff... If it's an obvious time-sucker, skip it and move on. Or guess.

Usually what I do is I pick on the best answer I can think of and Mark it.. If I have time, I go back and figure it out...
I want to make sure I go through the test once before spending too much time on any question.
Worse thing to do is not answer any of the questions or not have enough time to answer the rest of the test..
I also think they do it on purpose..
I wonder if there is anyone in NCARB that reads any of our post and realize that to become an Architect is way harder than taking the P.E exam or even becoming a doctor!..
I don't mind the 9 test.. but stick to certain material, tell us what set of documents and books you will test us on and be fair..
( ok no more venting )
It's been a while since I vented on these exams.. off to study GS.. =/

I find the contradictions difficult, i mean if we're supposed to:
1. Illustrate speed and knowledge- why can't they get our computer test results to us in a timely fashion.
2. Show responsiveness to our clients, code, climate, site, geography etc- why do they resort to complaints with form letters and Ivory Tower practices?
3. Communicate clearly- that one goes unsaid.
4. Be close to perfect in our practice- then why are the snaps so random on some of the vignettes?
5. Get the big picture and be able to coordinate multiple disciplines- Then why do have too much depth in some areas and less about the coordination/understanding as a result?
3 weeks and waiting for a computer graded multiple choice test...

I feel for you man!,, I know the feeling. Nothing worse than waiting for something that everyone else taking a MC test in prometric a grade when they leave.
I can understand the graphic, but MC, I don't. We should walk out with a pass or fail at that moment.
