Did anyone have any trouble with the computer calculator? I took the exam today and I felt 'held up' on many occasions because the buttons were not responding or slow. I also found toggling between scientific and regular mode was a bit cumbersome as well. I actually did some long multiplication written out on paper in the end to save time!
Just curious to know anyone else's experience with it...

Agreed - it sucked. Use the key pad on the keyboard, because pointing/clicking with the mouse is not only slow, it doesn't always click what you want. Having to open it, expand it to scientific, etc. EVERY time you have to use it is ridiculous. NCRAP should extend the exam times by 30 minutes just to compensate for the calculator!

One of my coworkers filed a complaint about the calculator to NCARB. I'm not sure it will do any good but I guess it can't hurt. Using theirs wasn't too bad for ME but I'm really nervous about using it on GS. I like the comfort of my calculator and knowing how to use it.

So, I'm just curious because I take mine in about a week. Can you take in your own calculator if it's not an "architectural calculator"? If it's on the approved list can you bring one? Or are they making everyone use their etch-a-sketch style calculator?

No calcs allowed to be brought into the testing room. There is no approved list of calcs. Sorry. From our friends at NCARB.....

Personal Calculators
Effective 1 July 2008, ARE candidates will no longer be permitted to bring a personal calculator into the test center. All divisions of the ARE 3.1 and ARE 4.0 will include an on-screen scientific calculator for candidate use.

you MUST use the keypad as stated above. clicking the numbers with the mouse often results in the number not showing up. additionally i had a couple questions where it stopped working and kept giving an answer as zero. if this happens go to the next question and then back to reset that thing.
how can it be justified in any way to allow me to use my calculator for 9 exams and then not allow me to use it for these two retakes?
ncarb are one of the most fascist organizations in the usa. dmv>ncarb !!!
