Hello Spokes,

I took the exam on March 28th, and passed!  See my posting from last week.  I was a bad girl who didn't study, but received a gift from the ARE Gods.

You are correct, the it should be rise/run.  There were a couple of other mistakes as well, listed on some of the discussions from when it was posted.  I don't have that with me.

Good Luck Spokes, don't stress about structures, wasn't near as hard as the stuff in school.  Understand the concepts and how to do moments.

Thanks for the words of encouragement dottie.  I will need to look for those other errors and mark-up my sheet, Thanks.

The closer I get to my test day the more confidence I have.  I wish I had structures in school but that's another story.  Anyhow I know I can pass so that's what I will do.  Good luck on your remaining exams.

edit: Apparently jimm... caught it.  I should have seen that.

Yeah....I looked over this page, and I don't trust it.  They have the formula listed for deformation which is pl over ae of course, but they also list this formula for coefficient of thermal expansion, which is incorrect.

This guide is very confusing to me.

I just took Structures today.  Jeesh....  I have no idea how I did.  One thing I would strongly recommend is to really understand tension and compression...it was the logical basis for many many questions.  Once you really understand this, you know where to place re bar, etc.  Many questions like that.

There were two questions on coefficient of thermal expansion. Know that!  It is not one of the listed formulas.  Know Moments!  WL SQUARED OVER 8.

No Truss calculations, thank god.  But did ask to choose the correct forces in the joint of  a truss.

Know Arrows/ forces in trusses!!!

Really focus on concepts......concrete is great in compression and bad in tension...etc.

Only about four questions were a complete guess for me, about 15 I had a fifty fifty chance on...narrowed it down.

Understand where shear occurs in a steel beam.  One question showed a beam failing in shear at the connections and ask why it failed.

Based on my above analysis....can anyone guess if I passed??  I really can never tell with these things.

Markm - Where do you see that they also listed this formula (Delta L = P x Loriginal / A x E) for coefficient of thermal expansion?  I've looked at Page 2 and don't see how they've supposedly used the same formula (Delta L = alpha x Delta T x L original)
