All -
I took this test yesterday (09/29/08), and below is a brief run down on my exam experience, without going into intricate detail.
MC Section:
The time alotted for this portion is more than adequate (2 hrs for 85 ?s). I was able to complete this portion in about an hour, and to go back a check "marked" questions, and then perform a complete review of all 85 quesstions. This test was extremely broad in content area, and below are some of the areas that I encountered in the portion of the exam.
5-10 questions on history
10+ questions on historic preservation
10-15 questions on spatial organization
5-10 questions regarding project delivery methods
5-10 Code related questions
The remaining questions covered roles of the individuals of the project team (AIA Contracts, A201, B141 & C141).
I was somewhat confident going into this portion of the exam, but upon exit, am really unsure of a pass on MC.
Vignette:
This portion of the exam was very similar to the practice software that may be obtained from the NCARB website, with some minor differences. I was able to complete the vignette in approximately 40 minutes, and used the remaining 20 minutes to check the program requirements to my solution. Some advise when solving this vignette would be to make sure that the grid is turned on for further checking. When reviewing setbacks, I noticed that some of the rectangles were off by about 1 foot, and using the grid helped immensely in finding this error.
Materials of Study:
I used the Kaplan 4.0 PP&P Study Guide, Question & Answer Booklet & Flash Cards. In addition I used the catch-all PPI (Ballast) 4.0 ARE Review Manual for additional study. I also used the NCARB Study Guide for this exam for additional mock exams.
I was somewhat taken aback by the MC portion, because the questions provided were very minimal to what was covered in the above study material, but haven taken & passed CD&S, the knowledge of the Contracts & role responsibility of the project team members did help.
I know that the above is somewhat broad, but without going into specific detail on exam content, I hope it provides some useful information for those who are planning/preparing to take this exam.
Well onto the next which is either SPD or SS.

Hey HM
congrats on finishing another, and I hope you see a pass in the mail soon. I felt very unsure right after that one too, due to the weird questions, but I got a Pass.
Why not take on SPD, which has a lot of content overlap with PPP? I found the SZ to be a good warmup for the other SP graphics too.
then, like me, you'll have the SPD, PPP, CDS trifecta!
Just a thought...

It is funny how you mention/suggest taking SPD after PP&P, since they overlap. I was reviewing the study material for SPD, and noticed that there was only 3 lessons in the Kaplan book, and thought, there would probably overlap from PP&P, based on the content in that study guide, and considering that while it is still fresh in my mind, I might as well take SPD.
So I am now preparing for SPD, and upon completion will move onto SS.
Thanks for the advise.

Cool, you've probably covered most of the material already in your PPP study. You'll need the time to work on those graphics---now is when the Forum becomes your best friend! Practice, post, comment, repeat. And I'll look out for your vignettes.
Then maybe I'll meet you on the other side for SS, I am doing BDCS right now, but would like to get onto some math stuff next.

Spatial orginization is the relationship of programmitic spaces to one another. If you are studying the Kaplan 4.0 guides, a "bubble" diagram is shown with spaces interconnected, with a questions that asks about relationships between them.
In programming, the spatial orginization/relationship is important when developing a solution to the clients problem/needs, in order to come up with a concise solution to solving the intercorrelation bewteen spaces, and how close or far apart they need to be.
I hope this above explanation helps.

Thank you for the breakdown and info.
Question.
I can't really decide which order I should take the exams. Some say your strongest frist and some advised the reverse. Sounds like after reading this, I should take CDS first, then PP&P, then SPD...???

I chose to go with what I thought would be my strongest, which happened to be CDS, since I deal with it on a daily basis. Going with the strongest as your first is good in order to boost that confidence level with a PASS. There is nothing worse than starting out and receiving a FAIL on that first test (this is what I have read on the forum).
Remember that PP&P is kind of a catch all, cover all the other sections of the exam. It is a good second exam, if you start with CDS, since there seems to be alot of overlap with the Contract portions (ie: A201, B141, C141, etc).
Following PP&P with SPD seems to make a lot of sense, since in 3.1, the MC portions of the exam were Pre-Design.
Also, remember to schedule an exam that you are not too sure of yourself somewhere in the middle, so if you happen to fail, you will the 6 month wait for retake to study for other portions. I chose to follow up my recent SPD exam with SS, since I haven't dealt with structures for some time.
Good Luck, and I hope the above provides you with the necessary incite to start this arduous task.

Hi, husky musher
Thank you for your input, it's very helpful
I have 10 days before the exam and feel very frustrated. I have taken CDS one month ago and felt not bad. But after three weeks preparing, I still can't feel a little confidence.
The most scaring parts I have are historic preservation, adaptive reuse, history and spacial organization. I used Kaplan 4.0 (which I found not good in PPP, is that true?), old ballast, some material in FTP and some websites, but I feel they are not helpful, especially to adaptive reuse questions and spacial organization ( not only in programming, like more about building types). When I did old ncarb mock exam and ballast exams, it sucks. Any suggestion about my last ten days? Thanks!!!

Hello All -
For those that have used this post for some insight into the exam, I thought I would provide an update to it.
After the "quality control" review by Prometric/ARE Ops, and long 3 month wait for my results, I finally received my results for this exam.
It was a post XMas gift on 12/26/08. And when I say gift, I received a nice PASS for this exam.
