Does anyone know where the AIA contracts are located??  I looked on the FTP site under contruction documents and I only see a commentary for both A201 & B141.....where is A101???  I heard these are really important to read.  Are these commentary enough?  Thanks for your help.....

You need to get a hold of the Architect Handbook of Professional Practice. It is published by the AIA. My office has the old version where there are 4 volumes each in a 3 ring binder, (volume 3 is the A series documents) There is a newer book version, black with tha AIA crest on the front .

On the FTP there is a file called AIADOCLISTSUMMARY_2001.pdf that describes the different documents

You need to look at the actual documents, not just the commentary. The only (appropriate & legal) way to get them is through your office or the AIA.

also make sure you're getting the 1997 versions that NCARB uses for the A.R.E.

Are there significant difference between 1997 and current AIA docs.  My office has the newer version.  Surely I don't to hunt down an old 97 version right?    ...right?

This is a very good point, as I started reviewing the contracts to get me ready for the PPP exam, I found out that the 2007 version is very different from 1997.  Check this attached link,   http://www.aia.org/SiteObjects/files/Condocs_A201Compare.pdf. If I study the latest would I be in better shape than  studying 1997. I can see based on my current experience on contract now, knowing 2007 would the right thing to do. What is NCARB consideration on the question asked, are they still on 1997?

Konakad, I have a hard copy of A201 in front of me and I am comparing it with the PDF of the link it is amazing the difference.  In retrospective, be on the safe side, it may be a lot of material to cover, but we'll know it for life.

rony-b,

good update and true words of wisdom about the life long practice.

I haven't seen NCARB amend the 1997 docs requirements for the ARE exams yet.  I used the '97 versions as recommended by the earlier 4.0 Forum members and NCARB website, and passed the CDS exam last month.  So there is still "old" stuff on these early 4.0 exams.  will it last????

If you're still having a hard time locating some of the old 1997 AIA forms, try dropping in some of the smaller "old-timer" one-man architect offices in your area.  They usually have them kicking around... and they're always happy to chat about the ARE experience.

good luck on CDS
