Just postpone exam day for two weeks, cause I really can't anticipate any confidence. After had CDS last month, I feel so sure and couldn't wait to get rid of one more, but after two weeks reading, now I am totally lost. I am using Kaplan 4.0, very old ballast, some chapters copied from AHPP and flashcard. I understand it's broad, broad and broad, but not sure if all these are enough for a pass? There is a history book (general history) in Kaplan series and it's also heavy, should I read it cover to cover for PPP? because in PPP book and ballast, there are already chapters about history (mostly about city planning and urban design). So confused about what kind of history I should focus?

Thanks!!!

You'll probably see a maximum of 4 history questions. Determine how much time you want to devote to history based on that.

Yes, CB3, the same in Kaplan's PPP book. But Kaplan has a separate history book, from Egypt to almost now. That's why I'm confused if I should use this one too. I found some guys in this forum had almost 10 history questions in their exams, 10 from 85 in MC!!!
That's a lot!!!

i read the Kaplan history book before anything else, anticipating it to be a primer for all the sections.  i expect i will rely mainly on the "history highlights" touched on in Ballast, section by section.

I don't - I had at least 7 in BDCS.  I was pleased to get home to discover I got at least half of those right.

Well, it appears that we have discovered a relatively significant change from 3.1.

I've run across a few questions that refer to a vaguely historic building and ask you to name parts of it. Is that history, or a picture of an old building?
I have a masters in architectural history, so it's actually interesting to me what the ARE considers to be worth knowing. There's definitely a bias towards Chicago. But, in my opinion, it's something architects ought to know. Most of the straight-up history questions I've seen are pretty basic (not to mention superficial.) Mies, Sullivan, Wright, and of course the aforementioned settlement patterns. Of course there are some oddballs that pop up, too (Nervi?!)
Look through a travel brochure on Chicago's architecture and you'll be in good shape!

That occurred to me too. If you have to identify a dentil, is that a history question? Wellll, not really. And I have no doubt that some categorize preservation or adaptive re-use questions as history... but they aren't.Whatever the case, I have no doubt that retention from arch history in school and a cursory review of that text and/or class notes is plenty to get by.

Just took the test, and I prob. had about 6-8 history questions.  I just skimmed through Kaplan history booklet, and if I had studied it a little more carefully, it would've been good enough (it would help if you've retained some info from college).  My history questions were very random, so I wouldn't stress too much about it.  Just try to read through the Kaplan, and you'll prob. do good enough on the history portion.  Good luck!
