I just took the PPP exam on Monday. Some thoughts.....
I studied the Kaplan material, took NCARB practice tests and the Kaplan tests, read AIA contracts A101, A201, B141 and read the main points of Historic Preservation. I did not have time to read the Kaplan History stuff which I wish I did.
The test seem to have a lot of questions on history. It seemed like many questions on the test were not that straight forward, there were also questions that gave scenarios and then you had to apply somewhat of what you read to anwser it. I think I may have missed 10-15 questions, I hope that is not too many to fail. Thoughts.
I also thought the vignette was hard to do. It was just hard to see on the screen visibly. Thoughts??
Not to complain, just wondering if anyone agrees. On to SPD!!!!

The vignettes where nearly identical to what was online from ncarb, i thought they were simple, if you've practiced the samples, merely following program.
I agree with history...i took the exam (my 1st) a few weeks ago and there were what seemed 10-15 either direct history or historic preservation questions. I didn't get a chance to study much history, and i didn't look at the handbook or aia docs either, there were several questions from there. I'm crossing my fingers too, but it was nice to get through one of the exams

Just copying the samples does not provide the problem solving practice required - even for only a slightly different program.
Using the alt's from the FTP site to practice along with Dorf's Solutions and posting schemes for comment (and commenting, too!) will get most people much farther.

| I think the NCARB vignettes are plenty.

I agree. Monday next I'll make PPP test and I recommend for the vignette make first a sketch using the pencil and papers to visualize without doubts the layout finally you're gonna make through the software.
Making practices I've noticed you waste a lot of time in back and forth between PROGRAM and vignette, also between zoom in and out, because the grid lines, the vignette lines and you auxiliary lines are very similar and make you confuse/crazy.
By the way, the lines from scratch allow you to stretch any long you wanna, in or without orthogonal mode. You just need to grab the end of it. If you don't grab the end, then you only move it.
I hope this help.
Happy New Year!

One thing regarding NCARB vignette sample.
When you choose Metric, the bench mark is not showing the elevation. you have to get it from the contour line. Unlike choosing the Imperial which indicates bench mark elevation next to BM exactly.
Something which may cofuse some people.
