Hi,
I recently studied for the PPP and I'm currently studying for the SPD. Last night I finished with the Kaplan book (MC Section). When I was about to do the Mock exam question I realized that the questions are the SAME than the PPP book. (WTF?!) I was really dissapointed because I know those questions by heart.
Do you have a mock exam I can practice from?
Also, I read that several people read the NFPA book. In my office we have the NFPA 101 Life Safety Book. It doesn't seem like an interesting read but, oh well... I guess I could do it.
Do you suggest I go for it? What time of Life Safety questions have you encountered? Book specific or general practice?
As a general comment, I have a hard time seeing the difference between PPP and SPD, other than soils and foundations.
Have you taken these exams? What was your impression? If there's another exam that is similar to these two, I wouldn't mind swinging them together.
Ah! One last thing. How long does it take to get the results for exams? I'm seriously freaking out about my PPP.

Have you used NCARB 4.0? People forget about them and they're free. 3.1 PD is a good choice too.

Evidently, Kaplan can't see the difference either!

Yep they're similar. Good idea to do them together

Diversify your study materials. That's the best advice I can offer. Archiflash is popular.
Also, a lot of people feel that CDS is a good followup for these 2, so you could start studying the contracts. You'll get contract related questions on many if not all exams, so it's a good idea.
Read recent posts by people who've taken SPD for an idea what's covered. No one seems to have been surprised by the content. It's a fairly predictable split-off from PPP.
I did buy a Ballast book of Q+A for it. Kinda pricey. Come to think of it...I should sell it!

Thanks for the reply. Apparently we are taking the exams at the same time! I did follow a lot of your advice from PPP. Honestly I thought that I had to study contracts for PPP and for SPD. I did read them before and I'll read them again. After all, it can't hurt, right?
I'll do the Ballast book this weekend along with the flashcards (i'm not a big fan of flashcards). Kaplan seems obsessed with slopes. But most of the questions are repeats from the previous books.
I'm lucky enough that in my firm they are buying all the books for us (we are dozens of people taking the exams). But I do encourage you to sell them here, if they are not damaged, you might break even! (Actually, I encourage this Forum to open a page called "Marketplace" for everyone to post their materials for sale or share. Save some green architects!)
