| I did a search for "sun chart" on this site and could not find instructions. Does anyone know of a post or something on how to read a sun chart?

They're really simple actually once you get beyond the fact that they can look intimidating at first (same goes for the psychrometric chart).
For the sun chart, one generally uses them to determine the angle of the sun above the horizon (altitude) at a particular time in a particular month. To get that, dothis:
1) Locate the city you're looking foron a map and determine its latitude.
2) in the sun path diagram corresponding to that diagram, select the path that represents the month you're looking for. These are the sort of horizontally-running arched lines across the chart, indicated by roman numerals I - VII (1st - 12th month).
3) Then look for the vertically-running arched line that corresponds to the hour (keepin mind that sunrise is in the east, 12 noon is in the middle, and sunset in the west).
4) Where those two intersect gives you the altitude (numbers in the middle of the chart) and the azimuth (numbers around the chart). Altitude is the angle of the sun above the horizon; azimuth is the angle of the sun relative to the 4 compass points.
Also check out AGS, pp. 803-804 in the tenth edition.

| You need to know the concept of the psychometric chart and how to read it. Please do not ignore the psychometric chart as it will pop up....

I don't see this exact information in MEEB (I only briefly looked, though I am sure the answer is there), but my guess would be the halogen spotlight - because the width is so narrow. Anyone else?

Heating, Cooling, Lighting by Lechner really explains it well. I have found my public library to be a great resource.

can someone correct me if i am wrong?
1. red radial lines = azimuth or bearing angles of the sun
2. red circles = altitude, sun angle measured aginst horizon(0 degrees)
3. blue lines = time of day, right is AM, left is PM (sun rise from east)
4. green lines = sun path of month in roman numeral (I=Jan, VI=June, etc.) is this different than the "shadow mask" on a rectangular chart?
5. green lines with 2 roman numeral means sun path for II (Feb.) is the same as X (October)
