Check your local AIA chapter. I know the one in Atlanta Georgia just had one a couple of months ago. I called to schedule but thought the $500.00 fee was robbery. I spent my money on MEEB (10th Edition) and believed I did just fine.

Read the entire book and took quizzes on line. Google "Mechanical Electrical Equipment for Buildings" to find your way to the quizzes.

I thought people are suggesting selective reading since entire book is not needed.

In my opinion, its not necessary to read the whole book....just topics that you need more breadth.  If you feel comfortable not reading all of MEEB, than do so.  There are lots of people here on the forum who only read parts of MEEB and many who didn't read it at all and passed.

You also don't read to buy the latest edition.  Many have passed using the 8th edition or earlier...

Hi New School,

I am just started to flip thru the MEEB book and is overwhelmed by the content, and then I saw this post!  Can you help me clearify what you mean by

'review diagrams and selected sections: 1,2,3,8,9,12,13,14,15,17,19,20,21,22,23,25,27,26,28'

of those chapters?  but which selected sections/ diagrams?  I have the 8th edition.. not sure if they structure the book differently?  Under each of my chapter.. it comes with many sections...

thanks alot!

Don't waste time with MEEB. MEEB is only good for one thing...sleep. My advice is skip MEEB entirely, and use Kaplan materials, Archi-flashcards, Norbert Lechner's Heating, Cooling, and Lighting, and materials gleaned from Forum's FTP site. MEEB will bore you to tears, and frankly, is much too specific for the exam. Although I have MEEB, it was useful for one thing, namely, studying the parts of an upright water heater.

Jonathan,

Did you use Ballast for these exams in addition to Kaplan?  I am trying to determine if it is OK to use one or the other or if you really should read both.  I am sure both can't hurt of course and I know I need alot of study but still I have a tendancy for overkill.

Thanks for your opinion.

Didn't use Ballast, although some report it was good. MEEB is just scary. It reads like an 19th-century manual on the art and science of phrenology.
