This was my last test to take... I have passed all except one graphic.... so I am, to say the least... burn't out.

I didn't study NEARLY has hard for this as I had all my other exams - and I should have... or atleast I thought so when I left the exam.  There has just been too much good golf on TV and WAY too much nice weather in North Carolina to justify sitting on my butt inside studying MEP.

I'd say I knew the exact answer to 5% of the questions,  I made educated guesses for 20% of them, flat out guessed at 30% and did not have any clue what they were talking about for the rest (45%).  I actually spend so much time reading and re-reading questions that I ran out of time.  I spent the last 5 second of the exam clicking random answers to the last 6 questions (those are included in teh 45% above).

I either snowed them or I knew more than I thought.

I studied Kaplan and Flash cards primarily.  A couple days before the exam I started flipping through MEEB.  If I had failed I would have blamed it on not having read enough of the MEEB.  However, like PD and MM, I don't think "studying" can help you with this test, other than understanding some of the vocabulary and looking at diagrams in MEEB.  I think my saving grace was my real world experience that allowed me to reason through 99% of the test.

There was NO mention of decibles, intensity... or anything related to sound or light.

Almost ALL HVAC relted except for the random quesitons that you don't know what to do with.  I will probalby go back and re-read sections of MEEB related to HVAC for my own benefit.  I will definetly add that book to my office library for reference.

Some of the questions were just odd.  There were a lot of LCC questions, some almost word for word from PD.

Here is the link to an enthralling discussion I started related to I and IL for those who are interested http://www.areforum.org/forums/forum4/46828.html  (yawn).

I am glad I am done with multiple choice.  I just have to go back and take BT (the beast)... ugh.

Hopefully I'm an architect by the end of the month.

Congratulations!  Way to go!  Woo hoo!  Exhale a few times and then go after BT - that's next for me as soon as I take this one on the 12th.

I'm not sure why I failed it the first time.  I thought the exam was easy.  I will restudy Solutions and run through the exam in real time once and then go take it.  So close.

Dude,

Congrats!!!  I know you and I were getting all obsessed over acoustic issues a few weeks back, only to find that we both seemed to have nothing on our tests that went into such depth.

:)

I will probably get my results in the next day or two, and am also concerned.

Good luck on BT.  Myself and newlyare are taking that one as well.

I highly recommend using the BT forum - practice and posting your solutions into the forum. Pay attention to the little things like beams being centerline of columns, roof flashing, downspouts and gutters, etc.

The BT forum was very helpful in my passing that exam. Best of luck to you both!

Took the MEP exam this morning. I must admit that the exam itself was a bit quirky (and I expected it to be).... I did feel better this time around compared to the 1st time I took this exam a year ago.

However, I'm still not confident enough to feel like I passed. Its more of a 50/50 crapshoot. I finished the last question with 30 seconds left...

There were questions involving incandescents, a plumbing code question (which was perplexing), about 8 calculations - most of them minor, didnt have time to fully calculate the number of fixtures in the space, so had to make a rough estimate by looking at the numbers.

Some were WTF questions - about 7 of them were just that.

Others were HVAC questions like heat pumps, refigerant loops, which part of the refigerant loop cools the liquid (evaporator). Also, HID questions were included, a lot of acoustics, sound transmissions, which wall type is better (CMU, brick, stud, stud w/ insulation) for sound transmission, etc....

I feel I could fall anywhere in the 60/80 percent range....too wide of a range for my comfort.

Praying for the good letter in a few weeks......in the meantime, I'm gonna shift my brain to GS and LF.

Peace!

High Intensity Discharge.  It's a catagory of lightbulb.  My advice, keep studying.

HID = High Intensity Discharge lamps.

The most common type is the sodium vapor lamps that are typically used in street lamps and give off a low-contrast orange glow. They have a high efficacy ratio compared to incandescents and fluorescents, and also have longer service lives.

They are also ugly as sin and deserve to be left in the parking lot.
