I only know this much:
-Fiberous filters for debris and particles. Non reusable
-Electromagnet filters which have opposite charges to attract particles. Reusable.
What others that you know of?

Type of filters:
Absorption filters are for gaseous contaminates removal, "activated charcoal" filters are the most common of these type.
Air Washers, control humidity and bacterial growth
Electronic Air Cleaner less maintenance, but pose a threat do to ozone production
Pleated types filters and roll types. These are from MEEB 10th edition.

| Air Filters (Media) versus HEPA filters (high efficiency particulate filters, more $$$$$ but better).

| I have seen they are part of an AHU. You will see that if you review mechanical shop drawings.

I should preface this response by saying that I haven't yet started studying for this exam, so I may not know what I am talking about.
I was recently working with an HVAC guy who said he removes the crappy filters that come with the AHUs and installs filters at each return instead, for what its worth.

the filter inside AHUs is a high grade 6" thick min. filter and is a must have. It is not only to filter the return air, but also the outside fresh air. Filters at return intakes are recommended. These filters are thin and need to be replace regularly. You can't go wrong with more filters. I don't know what you hired that HVAC guy for, but I suggest that you go and get his agg to put in that expensive piece of filter inside the unit. You are being ripped off.
