Hey All! Taking ME in about a week. Can someone explain to me why warm air can hold more moisture than cold air? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Thermodynamics.

But for the test, knowing the facts is all that's needed.

The theory is not necessary, in my opinion.

this may be over simplified, but this is what i've got:

the molecules in warm air are more excited (move around) than with cold air...and thus the air is less dense than cold air (which is why warm air rises). Because the molecules are farther apart, there is more room to contain(trap) water vapor.

when the warm moist air comes into contact with a cold surface...the air temp drops at that surface....the molecules move closer together, becomming more dense and the water vapor is forced out (no more room). the result is condensation.

I was going to say because warmer air is less dense...but I like your analogy better.
