But check it - I'm scheduling mine for May 14th, the day before the cutoff of being forced to take 4.0. Its make it or break it for me. If I pass, I stay in 3.1. If I fail, I'm automatically shifted to 4.0 and wasted only one exam, of which I just pay 35 bucks to retake (right?)
I would triple-check that May 14th test date. I think the latest date to qualify for continuing in 3.1 is May 13th.

The last day to schedule was May 13. The last day to take the test is today.

You're right, Abra. The light bulb finally went off on the dates...

I took ME yesterday. A couple of facts:
1.Many questions are written in such a way that the primary obstacle to your finding the correct answer is wading through the question. The distractions come in the form of extra information (that is fair), but in some cases the little image you have to look at is at such poor resolution that it is illegible. who draw's these little diagrams anyways, they look like they came out of a junior high school intro to corel draw. Also, in some questions, the list of possible answers focuses on a combo of three or four that seem similar and would somehow hold the correct answer, yet it is the one that sticks out like a sore thumb that is the correct answer! Why do I mention this? Because it seems that the test takers have resorted to nasty tricks!
2.Other questions are so very specific that unless you know the plumbing code UPC inside and out, for example, and unless you can deal with installation specifications that are out of the ordinary, you will not get the answer right. In fact an answer is supplied that would be a logical conclusion from having studied MEEB or Ballast etc.
my point: the test is not evaluating competence, its a wild goose chase (just like the profession)
I would recommend looking very closely at:
Electrical, Daylighting, Noise Absorbtion & Transmission stuff.
MEEB is the SOURCE, but I enjoyed and learned a lot from the discussion of daylighting in Lechner's Heating cooling Lighting, a very clear book unencumbered by too many specifics (like MEEB)
btw. i feel confident I passed, but we all know what that means. .
good luck, --FAIAL--

I took my exam the 13th - thanks though.
Result: pass
Therefore: I have to July 2009 to pass the remaining 8 or I'm transitioned to 4.0
yay

This post was so helpful to the studying preparation for this exam, so thanks for that.
I found this exam to be particularly tricky and almost entirely based on the general understanding of topics. I wish I had looked in the MEEB book more.
I think it would be helpful to all candidates if they at the very least got familiar with the images, charts, and diagrams that are in the MEEB book. I don't think it is necessary to read the book, or even most of the chapters, however I definitely saw a lot of figures and charts straight from MEEB. Kaplan and Ballast alone will not get you prepared.
For some reason there was a lot of questions on escalators.
I feel like this test got the better of me, and I will hopefully be pleasantly surprised next week with the results.
