does anyone know if there is a general rule for maximum efficient layouts of parking lots (45 degree approach, 90 degree approach, 30 degree appr. etc and also about the traffice flow, one way or two way etc)... i suppose i can draw various versions and figure it out but i was hoping someone can point me in the right direction...

the question is to maximize the number of parking spaces within a given area by using least space for circulation...

In my opinion, it is unlikely that this specific sort of question will appear on the test.

Effcient parking is an outcome of the design process not a predetermined fact.

There is no generic efficient layout.

The most efficient layout will depend upon site configuration, facility use, and level of service criteria.

actually...I got a question along those lines on my test. I'm pretty sure I missed it though.I mixed up the 30 degree and 60 degree parking in my sketch. Oh well...

I also got a question like this on my test. But it asked which layout would be most efficient given a certain situation, i.e. single direction of traffic circulation, or limited amount of back-up space, or minimum aisle width...

45, 60, and 30 degree parking requires less back-up space and aisle width, but given a set length, you cannot fit as many parking spaces as you could w/ 90 degree parking. I agree w/ brudgers that "most efficient layout" would depend on site config, but in the test, they might give you key hints to what the site limitations/conditions are, and ask you to choose the best parking layout given those conditions.

In general, 90 degree angle config allows about 11 parking spaces per 100 LF of curb; 60 degree angle config allows about 9 parking spaces per 100 LF; 45 degree angle config allows about 8 spaces per 100 LF; and 30 degree angle config allows about 5 spaces per 100 LF.
