HOW TO POST IMAGES:

1.  complete your vignette solution and move your cursor off the screen.

2.  press “PrintScrn”.  Nothing will happen.

3.  open any graphics program such as Paint.

4.  in a new file, press “Ctrl V”.  This will paste your image into the file.

5.  crop as needed.

6.  save the file (.jpg is best).

7.  start a new thread on the forum in the appropriate area.

8.  attach the file you just saved to your post.

Note you are allowed only one image per post.  To post a second image, reply to your first post and attach the next file.

edit:  If you "preview" your post, you will not be able to see the attached image, but it will show up when you "send".

I have a very budget and very old laptop that I am using to prepare for these graphic exams.

I use a program called AbiWord to paste my PrintScrn into. Then from AbiWord I can right click and "Save Image As" .png (and yes .png is an acceptable format to post to these forums)

It is a Free and Open Source word processor. Yes it can read and write MS Word Documents and others...

you can Google AbiWord to find the site (called AbiSource) to download it from. who knows, you might find it useful for those pesky .doc files also.

Need help,

I tried to post my work several times, but I'm having problem posting it.

I pasted it on word perfect and saved it as .jpg and still, I can't make it

work. Please is there a better way to paste and post this thing.

When I pasted my work in word perfect window, the entire work window and

drawing tools were showing and I saved everything like that. Is that the right

way to do it?

Thanks

Try using Paint instead of wordperfect.

Lug-nut,

I clipped my work in paint, but half of my work showed in the window. I saved it as jpeg. When I attached it for post and did preview it won't show. Am I doing something wrong.

I am experiencing some of the same problems.  I cannot seem to get my images to the correct file size in photoshop.  I am afraid that if the image gets too small, It will look akward within the forum.  From your experince, what image size do you recommend.

Trouble posting multiple images?

Post your first image in a new thread.  Reply to your first post and attach the second image, etc.

One image per post.

Also, please start a new thread for your own images instead of "piggy-backing" or "thread-jacking" someone else's thread.  It makes it much easier to keep track of what comment goes to what image/post.  This avoids confusion and ensures that everyone gets the help they need.

If you have photoshop or other such imaging program, you can save as a GIF file.  GIFS work very well with screenshots with few colors.  I suggest cropping the NCARB tools, etc out of the image.  You will get a full resolution image with lossless compression at 1/10th the size of a JPEG.  Great for folks with a hi-res graphics card!

Scratch that... The forum software converts it to a JPEG.
Go figure.

How can I save both layers of the SD??  I can only print screen to save one image, and then I have to close the NCARB program to post, and lose my info.  Why can't I minimize my NCARB screen to print both layers??

The NCARB software behaves oddly.  From the drawing screen (NOT the program screen) you can press the Windows + D key and open your browser/image software.
If that doesn't work for you, you can close out of the Vignette.  You can leave the main NCARB program running if you'd like. and you should be able to load any program you wish.

I am having trouble the ALTs to practice on because they are .dwg files which open in AutoCAD- not the NCARB program. Am I missing something? I can't do it in autoCAD because the building sizes and other preset items are not available to just pick and drop on the screen like they are in the NCARB software. Can someone explain how to use the practice exams (ALTs) like they were speaking to a computer inept person (in detail)? THANK YOU.

When you do your renaming of files within the NCARBPP folder, you should be ok. Pardon the stupid question but are you opening the NCARB program or the .dwg file itself?

I have used the entire procedure suggested in the many previous posts.  Renaming the file in the NCARBPP folder results in a message from the program when I try to open the site design practice which says there has been an error and the program must shut down.  That is after the program tells me there has been a change and do I want to accept it.  I say yes and then  it  says it has to shut down.

I have resorted to opening the alt dwg. file in Autocad and then trying to do the alt exercise from there....not the same thing.

With your NCARB software open and the solution on the screen, move the cursor to the side, hit control, alt and print screen buttons all at the same time.  Then open Photoshop (or other similar program), make a new document, and hit paste, or control V.

Works for me every time!

These are from NCARB's practice software and alternate vignette files substituted in the program.  You can download the software or rent time at a Prometric testing center to learn the program.

In response to kpants:

-Read the "readme" document on the FTP---it will walk you through how to take the alternate backgounds from the FTP and dump them into the NCARB practice program.  Some posters have reported that they needed to restart their computer in order to get the alts to "take" (I didn't have to, so it must depend on some of your global settings).

-Print the program for each of the alts directly from the FTP.

Lug-Nut...

I got the all the way to step 7 of your post and got stuck.  How do you "start and new thread".  I assume it will be clear on how to attach the image once I start a new thread.  I'm new to the forum... sorry to bother you with this kind of stuff.

Thanks, T-Ray

I am new in ottawa ontario and just registed as an intern with the ontario association of Architects. I am originally graduated from Tunisia.

I am hoping to start the ARE exams before May and was thinking to start with the graphic exams.

Can anyone recommend me the best documents to use as a base. Is there any available free online and/or where to buy themsecond hand.

The study material are very important for me as I didn't study in north america and would like to be sure I have the knowledge required for the exam.

Thank you for your help
