I was just wondering how long is enough to study for SP.  I have already taken BP and BT so am familiar with NCARB's software.  I just started studying this week, but I'm wondering if 2-1/2 weeks be enough to do the practice vignettes a few times and understand it all?  Thanks!!

I starting studying about two weeks ago, and I feel pretty comfortable with the concepts, just waiting for the actual testing problems (tomorrow).  If you are comfortable with the software you may need less time.  Which one would you take next if you were me BT or BP?

I gave myself 3 weeks to learn the software and study.  I was very comfortable going into the test.  You'll probably be fine with 2 weeks.  I do recommend trying every alt and make sure you understand the different concepts of site grading (flat vs. sloping pad, roads, etc.).  Site Zoning is an exercise in paying attention and common sense.

2 to 2 1/2 weeks should be o.k. if that is what you time you have typically studied for the other exams. I studied about 2 weeks for each of the sections that I passed on the first time around. I totally bombed my first site-planning attampt as I did not know about the forum WAY back then! The main thing is being totally familiar with the software. The test uses EXACTLY the same software although, obviously the problems will be different. I did not work any of the alternates and although I do not recommend this, it is just the choice I made.

Hokiearchitect,
For me BP was a good second choice after I took site planning. The only reason I rationalized that choice was because there was less material to study and fewer vignettes to work out. I saved BP for last ( passed it) and am now moving on to take SP for a third ( and hopefully) final time!

2 full weekends (last weekend and this upcoming weekend).  plus i read the site planning books and sample pencil and paper vignettes from kaplan, as well as dorf over the past week during my lunch.

maybe 30 hours total.  20 of them on the software.

the concepts are straight forward. i just need to nail down the finer points (graphically) on the sodtware.

Thanks everyone for the comments.  For BT and BP I studied about 3 weeks and 2 weeks respectively.  I gave myself more time for BT since that was my first and I wanted to be familiar with the program.  So hopefully 2 weeks is enough for SP.

I would say that either one would be ok to take first.  It seemed to me that once you are familiar with the program it doesn't take long to understand what the vignettes are all about.  I just wanted to make sure to take BT in time to have a chance to retake before 4.0 conversion in case I had failed so I wouldn't have to retake my other exams.  So I would at least try to take that one before the end of the year, regardless of which one you take next.

I'd take BT.  It hurts your the most should you have to move into 4.0
