Thread: USGBC cash flow

    Default USGBC cash flow

I found this information on GuideStar. Do a search for "Green Building" and narrow search to the city of Washington. To see the 990 forms requires a free membership. I would say this is definately a Green generating organization. Just wish they would have used a fraction of their assests to roll out LEED 2009 in a better manner. Why did they need to raise the Registration fee? They have enough cash to operate half the year without any fees.

GBCI 2008 (First year in existance):
    Total Revenue: $18,687,764
    Total Expenses: $9,333,393
    Net Assets: $9,354,371

USGBC 2008 (Most recent year available):
    Total Revenue: $64,345,421
    Total Expenses: $55,724,904
    Net Assets: $28,911,706

    USGBC 2007:
    Total Revenue: $45,614,595
    Total Expenses: $35,470,699
    Net Assets: $20,900,272

    USGBC 2006:
    Total Revenue: $27,828,846
    Total Expenses: $23,120,326
    Net Assets: $10,330,968

    Rick Fedrizzi:
    2008: $480,219 (+37.9%)
    2007: $348,241 (+23.2%)
    2006: $282,594

Another 11 months before 2009 information is available, can't wait.

WTF?!!!! And I thought USGBC is a "non-profit" organization.....I'm stunned. Rick pulling down almost a half-million in salary during the worst economic crisis is strange. I'm a big supporter of LEED, but I don't like what the organization is doing.

Also Scot Horst and his relationship with 7Group (ex-president) before joining USGBC is shady at best. I noticed that USGBC and 7Group has been involved in a lot of high profile projects lately....It doesnt take a rocket scientist to imagine Scot and Rick recommending 7Group to potential clients....which is bordering almost on unethical, but still legal.

There are a lot more talented people in the A/E industry than those running the USGBC itself.

    Groan......

"...a lot more talented people in the A/E industry... "

...and USGBC needs to be cognizant of the fact that A/Es have little tolerance for crap and it will be the messengers (A/Es) who determine how far USGBC/LEED can progress. All it will take is for the messengers to advise their clients that USGBC has become a corrupt sham and LEED cannot produce expected environmental results - this is real world stuff with real world $$$, where business does not wantonly throw money down the (water efficient) toilet!

BTW, any organization that invites Gore to bed down with them becomes suspect and loses support as my voice for responsible sustainability.

    Default USGBC is corrupt...

I think USGBC is out to make money...plain and simple...
this is NOT an altruistic organization....
and I think Rick Federizzi's salary is the tip of the iceberg....
I say boycott the USGBC and establish a new rating system...
one that is more thoughtful in its application and less of a "kingdom"
E-mail members of the board and let them know exactly how you feel, their lack of oversight is problematic....

Well, well. The blinders finally come off. The Kool-aid is poured down the drain.

As Matt said, leed's been a sham, scam all along.

Shame on all who perpetuate it.

LOL, people are finally figuring out that the "green" means green colored paper with numbers and pictures of dead presidents.
I refer back to my story in an earlier post about the California gold rush in 1849, where the only ones who got rich were the saloon keepers, horse traders and pick and shovel salesmen.
There's more money in selling the tools than in the gold.....or green.

I'd love to see the same kind of data on NCARB.
