Given the fact that LEED APs have been doing this since LEED v1, on their own and without being coerced, I'm wondering if there was perhaps a different impetus behind the new policy... just saying

How about 120 credits every two year or even 240 credits then? The only way to being coerced without doing a real LEED projects is restudying and retesting. Continue education credits does not make any sense, since many people have LEED AP did not work on any LEED projects since they passed the exam.

    Agreed.
I'm not retesting the AREs every three years. The State of Maryland seems to be quite content with my ability to satisfy their CEU requirements. Though I am paying a fee every three years to keep my registration current... I suppose that model just wouldn't generate enough revenue for the "non-profit" USGBC...

She confirmed this and said this change was made to keep users engaged and kept up to date with the latest LEED rating systems, etc. Guess they feel that once people get their LEED AP, they won't continue to educate themselves on future changes to the LEED rating systems.
Clearly a biased presentation by USGBC. Was it a USACE prospect course?

However it only takes skimming recent threads on this forum to see that some LEED APs have absolutely NOT been doing this. Come on, there are people just now discovering the whole LEED-with-specialty system and griping because they missed the deadline for opting in without retesting... Some of these people even state that the only reason they became LEED APs in the first place was to put it on their business card, and they've done absolutely zip since then to keep up with anything related to LEED.

Nope. Two times a week, a sustainability webinar is given within USACE. For that week's presentation, Chrissy Macken (USGBC) was invited to present on LEED v4. After reading stuff on this forum about only LEED APs+ specialty getting the IDc2 point for v4, I couldn't resist asking her if this was true.

Send her an email, and ask her this, because I'm really curious.....

How will ASHRAE 189.1 affect the future market for 3rd party certification once it is published, and then perhaps adopted by say the army, or any other DoD agency for that matter?

My understanding of 189.1, based on the presentations and FAQs presented online, is that it is a way to deliver IgCC compliant "sustainable buildings" without 3rd party certification.

    Thanks

I dont know why LEED is being so stubborn about accepting other legit wood certs. They must have a behind the scenes handshake with the FSC. GOOD OL' RICK. or at least accept the other 2 wood certs and just say you have to comply with a couple other items to bring those certs up to LEED Standards. JMO.

and the LEED AP+ only getting a point on their specialty project can easily be scene as a complete cash grab to force/encourage multiple certification. This thing needs to realize its a NOT-FOR-PROFIT.
