Faramir, I saw that you did that:

I looked at scorecards for 56 LEED v2.2certified projects and totaled up all of the points. Thought some people would be interested in knowing which points are least likely to be earned. And this is a mixture of Certified, Silver, Gold, and a few Platinum.

  • MRc1.3 - 0.0%
  • MRc3.2 - 1.8%
  • MRc3.1 - 5.4%
  • MRc1.2 - 7.1%
  • WEc2 - 7.1%
  • MRc6 - 8.9%
  • EAc1.10- 10.7%
  • SSc3 - 12.5%
  • EAc2.3 - 16.1%
  • EAc1.9 - 17.9%
  • MRc1.1 - 19.6%
  • EAc2.2 - 19.6%
  • EAc2.1 - 23.2%
  • EAc5 - 23.2%
  • SSc5.1 - 23.2%
  • EAc1.8 - 25%
Do you know if the same kind of study has been done for LEED v3?

All they mean by "principal" is that the AP has to take an actual part in the process and not just be somebody on the payroll who signs his name.

I have not heard of any kind of study done on LEED v3(v2009). I just looked at the list of certified buildings and only 45 showed up under v2009. Most are not BD&C version. None had scorecards publicly available. Many points are similar between v2.2 and v2009 so I'd think percentages would be similar too. WE and EA points would have the largest differences.

I'm generally amazed at the lack of any kind of studies done on LEED. That's why I did my own to figure out just which points are most and least earned. Feel free to ask your own questions and gather information for your own study. Start a new post here with anything interesting you find.

Do you have any ideas if GBCI can translate documents? and how much would it be? This service is provided for the BREAM certification. Because translating all documents form french to english is a gigantic work...
I have asked some questions to the GBCI about 2 weeks ago and I still don't have answers...

Another question is concerning the time during builder can say that his building is "LEED certified". For example, 6 years after certification, can we still say that the building is LEED certified or do we have to get the certification for existing building?
For the french HQE certification, owner can only say during 3 years and 3 months that his building is HQE, after he has to get the "HQE for existing buildings".

thanks

I have not heard of them offering any translation or what these fees would cost. I'd think it would be less expensive if you hired someone independantly. The trouble is technical documents are always difficult to translate.

hehehe. Don't expect getting much information from GBCI. The best chance is to talk to someone on the phone if you want a real answer. Reaching someone is the challenge. The best you'll get from the e-mail is a response in about 2 month that just quotes some official document or FAQ from their website that does not answer your question.

There is no expiration on the LEED certification. I think that's why it was so popular and caught on so well. A lot can change in a building in 3 years so it makes sense why the HQE you mention expires. But it would be too hard of a sales pitch to work in the US. The documentation and cost would need to be a lot more basic for people to buy into a rating that expires in just over 3 years. The US does have Energy Star rating for existing building that just compares energy and water usage. The top 25% of performing buildings can earn Energy Star. But LEED has marketed itself for the top 10% of buildings. Though nothing has backed up that statement, and LEED covers more than energy and water. Energy Star ratings for buildings are known about less.

Do you know if DesignBuilder software is commonly used for LEED certification? This is the software we are currently using here in France for computer simulations.

I saw that those calculation methods are used for LEED:
  • DOE-2
  • DOE EnergyPlus
  • Trane Trace 700
  • Carrier HAP-E20 II
Can we use any software using those methods to document for LEED certification?

Other question: Can we start a LEED certification for NC/MR if the construction has already started? What is the deadline to start a certification?

Ok, nobody knows...

I have a question concerning the IEQ Prerequisite 2:
Prohibit on-property smoking within 25 feet of entries, outdoor air intakes and operable windows.
How does it work for a project in town? Because most of the time the street is just in front of the building and it is impossible to prohibit smoking on the sidewalk?
